Silver Springs

A Harry Potter fanfiction by Eowyn Shadeslayer

She stood in the doorway, her long, dark red hair falling over her left shoulder, her bright green eyes glowing in the dark. Her face was thin, but prettily so; her lips were full and expressive. Somehow, she seemed translucent, as though a light shone through her.

Severus sat upright, slowly, trying not to frighten her. She did not turn, did not move; her gaze remained fixed into the distance.

"Lily?" he said, his voice catching in his throat.

She turned her head slowly and met his eyes. There was something desperate in hers, as though she was really alive, not just a product of his half-awake mind.

"Lily…" He rose from the bed, a hand outstretched toward her, ignoring the rational part of his mind that told him this was false.

As he drew closer, she began to fade, bit by bit, first her legs, then moving up her torso like a creeping mist. He reached out, As if to caress her cheek, but his hand met nothing but air….

The last thing to fade was her emerald eyes. He blinked, and they were gone.

The room was empty. Severus stood, still as ice, tears running down his pale face, staring at the spot where the phantom had been.

She would never stop haunting him.
