The rain pelts the ground as she steps outside. He's hurt her so many times; she's sure she's lost count. But she always came back to him. This time though, she'd have to think about it.
He'd told her she didn't love him. He'd said it was all a lie. He called her a child. He went on to insult their relationship, to say they couldn't be in love...that they were simply playing a game of cat and mouse.
She simply starred into his blue-grey eyes when he was done with her. She didn't cry, she didn't scream, she just stared. Her glare equally emotionless as his. Her lips parted, as if to comment. She then drew a breath, closed her mouth and turned on her heel.
That is how she ended up on the roof. All morning the clouds seemed menacingly grey, threatening rain. The blue crystallized sky was no longer visible beyond the swirling grey and black clouds that clapped thunder that sounded like an evil laugh.
The rain was pounding down on her. She could hear the rain pounding like a drum line in her ears. The rain, however, was not as loud as the deafening silence between her and her boss.
She thought about how over the last three years he's made her cry rivers of tears. She thought of how no matter what he did ... she'd never leave. Because inside, she knew that his pain was, and is, what has made him the beast he is. His anger and pain was killing him from the inside out. And she wanted to help him not fix him, but help him and care for him and most of all, love him!
Finally, as the rain continued to pelt down on her back and her emotions became too much. She collapsed to the ground and cried. Letting her tears mix with the rain.
He slowly made his way down the halls and out the large glass doors. The rain fell steadily as he looked up at the grey sky of twisting clouds.
How bad he hurt her, he didn't know...but for the first time in his life, he was sorry.
He sat on a bench, drenched from the rain. The rain drops hit his brow and ran down his cheek, like a tear, and landed in his open hand.
He curled his hand into a fist and angrily asked himself why he always pushed her away. He figured it was his damn emotional wall the kept him from showing his love for her. Yes, he did ... he loved her... "If only she knew..." he whispered.
He closed his eyes tightly, unsure of which hurt more: his leg, or his heart. He opened his eyes wearily and his gaze went to the roof where he saw a lone figure hunched over, hands covering face, shoulders shaking, and knees buckling.
The rain continued to beat her shoulders. She was beginning to shiver. A crack of lightning filled and electrocuted the sky; followed by a roll of thunder that filler her ears.
She shuddered, but was comforted by a warm hand on her shoulder.
"I'm ... I..." at this point she dropped to her knees; and the hand left her shoulder. He walked around to face her and squatted down before her. He pushed a stray hair out from in front of her face.
"I'm sorry." he said in a low - raspy voice, "For the first time in my life. I... Oh, forget my damn walls! I love you! I love ... you... Cameron."
And for the first time all day her tears were cheerful ones.
She met him half way for a kiss. His hands warm on her heck, hers: one ruffling his hair, the other lightly and electrifyingly on his cheek.
The rain still poured and pelted.
They broke apart, forehead-to-forehead, nose-to-nose. Both had eyes closed, as they held each other tight through the thunder and rain wondering who's tears they'd tasted ... hers ... his .. or maybe just the rain. But best guess is, it was a little of each.
