She's Always A Woman
She can kill with a smile,
She can wound with her eyes
She can ruin your faith with her casual lies
I don't love her. She killed whatever we had when she agreed to take on Leafpool's kits. Those smiles, those purrs, were they fake? Staged? Was our whole relationship a façade? The faith I had in her exploded as her secret spilled on to the sacred ground at the Island quicker than Hollyleaf could control it. It was her! I would be happier if I was never told. I would have never found out, so everything would have been content.
And she only reveals what she wants you to see
She hides like a child
But she's always a woman to me.
She hides these days. She doesn't talk, and she never laughs. That flame that burned bright just eight moons ago had been extinguished by the sisters' flood of lies. I couldn't be accounted responsible – cats were always telling me to give the ginger-furred liar another chance. Why? She should be begging for me! Not the other way round!
She can lead you to love
She can take you or leave you
She can ask for the truth, but she'll never believe.
Isn't it ironic that when I was with Hawkfrost, she never trusted me? I wasn't doing anything wrong, surely she would be lost if she couldn't see Leafpool? But no. And now, when the mouse is in my paws for a change, she expects me to flop down on my belly and be tickled. Not on her life…
And she'll take what you give her, as long as it's free
She steals like a thief
But she's always a woman to me.
She stole my heart when we were on the Great Journey. So courageous, so free – someone who seemingly didn't see my as a murderer's son but as a brave, loyal warrior. And she's kept it with her. But I want it back…or do I?
She'll promise you more than the Garden of Eden
Then she'll carelessly cut you and laugh while you're bleeding.
But she'll bring out the best and the worst you can be
Our relationship promised so much – I thought we meant so much to each other. We had travelled far together; I thought that was supposed to strengthen our bond, not break it. I always knew that when it was good, it was fantastic, and when it was bad, it was always rubbish, but I never would have thought that this fierce and loyal cat would have ended it this way.
She's frequently kind
Then she's suddenly cruel
She can do as she pleases, she's nobody's fool
But she was always lovely to me – we had so much fun together. She was warm in the coldest of nights and she was brave in the fiercest of disasters. I couldn't have thought of a cat I'd rather bring up three kits with. She was a wonderful mother, she brought them up like her own – she loved them like her own.
But she can't be convicted
She's earned her degree
Maybe one day, we'll back together again. But as long as she doesn't want anything to do with me, I don't see a future. If she was barren, then why didn't she tell me? We were mates, we weren't supposed to keep secrets. I just wish Jayfeather and his siblings were my kits – I was honoured to be their father. Maybe one day, one day.
And the most she will do
Is throw shadows at you
Cos she's always a woman to me…
What did you think of that? Sad? Bad? Awful? Write a review!
Till next time! Leo :)
