"Welcome home, Shin-chan," you greeted your husband as he arrived from work. Working at a hospital really did take its toll on him. You did your best to make him feel comfortable; making him his favourite meals, making sure to keep his lucky item of the day in plain sight and making sure that (Y/d/n) was around to cheer your husband up. Being with his daughter, was instant medicine to Shintarou, on even the worst of days.
Today, he was after two operations. So it was unlikely that he had much energy remaining in him.
"(Y/d/n), come talk to me," he said, a tired smile on his face, unwilling to let precious time with his daughter slip. He didn't let his tsundere ways interfere either. Your daughter giggled as she made her was towards Shintarou. As soon as she was snug in his arms, she began her normal questioning session. She would always love asking your husband about anything, and everything, that came to her little mind. She didn't get that trait from Shintarou, so it must have been you.
"Daddy, where do you go every day?" she started questioning poor Shin-chan.
"I go to work, nanodayo," your husband replied. You tried your best to stifle your laughter. Normally, it would be a 'sweetie' or a 'darling' that would be added to such a sentence and not a 'nanodayo'. However, (Y/d/n), like you, had grown so used to it. It was now something unique to your family. Yes, 'your family'.
"Where do you work, Daddy? What do you do?"
"Well, I work in a hospital. I treat patients who are sick. Most often, I have to carry out various operation and surgeries, but never has it turned out to be life threatening. In general, I'm a surgeon." your husband finished, unaware that (Y/d/n) didn't catch a word he was saying.
"Shintarou, why don't you explain it in more simpler terms, hm?" you suggested to him, doubting your daughter would understand anyway. He looked at you thoughtfully, gave a quick nod, and turned back to your daughter.
"Do you remember how I give you medicine when you have a cold?"
"Mey-dee-cine? Cold? I don't like, Daddy!" your daughter almost started a tantrum. Luckily, Shin-chan came to the rescue.
"No, no medicine. No cold." he held her hands in his. She looked up at him, then shifted her stare onto the floor.
"But, 'mey-dee-cine' helps me get well," she mumbled, hardly audible to anyone.
Shintarou's face brightened, "Yes, that's what I do every day. I help people get better," he had finally explained it to her. You sighed in relief.
"Oh!" Your daughter exclaimed after getting her answer, and soon began thinking of yet another question.
As you were about to bring Shintarou his dinner, you remembered what the doctor said about keeping your blood pressure in check. So, you rushed to your room and brought the blood pressure machine to the living room so Shintarou could check for you. Your daughter, having noticed the new object in the room, was once again curious.
"Daddy, what's that?" (Y/d/n) pointed at the blood pressure machine. You chuckled as Shintarou looked at you for help. At least he knew he couldn't be explaining 'blood pressure' to kids.
"It's...a 'fun machine', nanodayo," Shintarou was able to answer without taking too long to think.
"What does it do?" your daughter looked at the two of you inquisitively.
"It measures how much fun you're having. Or if you're having too much fun." he pushed his spectacles up for effect, and smiled as his daughter looked up admiringly at him.
What a lovely way to go around things, Shin-chan!
