Chapter 1: Awoken

Darkness. That's what surrounded me. It swallowed me up like a black hole. I floated in nothing..then..then..

"Guardian!"

What? What is that sound? That light? A light began to form in front of me. At first, it expanded slowly, then all at once.

"Guardian? Guardian! Eyes up Guardian,"

My eyes burst open. My head felt groggy and I felt a migraine coming along. I slowly got to my feet, my vision blurring in the process, and felt a spike of nausea take over me. I groaned in response and touched my forehead. Once the nausea faded and my vision cleared I looked around. There was snow on the ground, lots of rusted cars, and a big wall off to the right. I must be somewhere up north, I thought to myself. My eyes roamed the area until they rested on a small, floating cube. What the hell?!

"It worked! You're alive. Why are you looking at me like that? I've been searching for you for a very long time and you're looking at me like I'm a Baron from the House of Devils, give me a break," I opened my mouth to respond, but realized it was already open from shock, and was quickly interrupted by the floating cube. "Never mind that. I'm a Ghost. Actually, I'm your Ghost now. You've been dead for a very long time now, so you'll see things that you won't understand," Dead? Well that explains the migraine and nausea, I thought. Ghost looked out over the hills, almost like he was checking over his shoulder to see if something was following him, that is, if he had any shoulders. "We're in Fallen territory, and it's not safe. We need to get back to the City," he explained, then he vanished. I must have looked surprised because he reassured me saying, "Don't worry, I'm still here. We need to get of here. Head into that building over there," I looked in front of me and saw a building.

I heard a screech not too far behind me, I mean us, and sprinted for the door. I was genuinely surprised, considering I literally just came back from the dead, and now I'm running around like a madman. We got safely inside the building, but I'm using the word "safe" loosely. It was so dark I could barely see in front of my own nose and I heard soft scratching noises, like there were creatures climbing inside the walls. Thankfully Ghost produced a small light so I could at least see where I was stepping. I was walking up the stairs when I heard a loud scuffling sound and saw something move inside the walls through a hole. "There's a lot of Fallen in here. I'm going to see if we can get some light in here," Ghost said calmly. He materialized in front of me and looked at me reassuringly, making sure I was ok with him leaving me. I nodded in response, and watched him float away. After he was out of sight I looked around for any signs of movement, and felt a little scared when Ghost left. I shook it off and continued looking around me. A short time later the lights flickered and came on and saw Ghost zooming towards me. Behind him I saw nightmare fuel. There were things crawling on the walls. "Alright, up next is a weapon. Luckily there's a chest up ahead and we can find one in there," Ghost explained. I looked at the hallway off to the right and jogged towards it, not even bothering to look behind me. Just like he said, there was a chest there. I opened it and found some weird jewels and a gun called the Khvostov. I picked it up and when I felt the weapon in my hands I felt a memory prodding the back of my head. I shook my head and decided to focus on the task at hand instead of trying to remember past memories. From that point on things went surprisingly well. Killing the weird creatures known as "Fallen" went fine. It was like I already knew what to do. Then we somehow made it safely back to the city.

That was a year ago.

After a year of being resurrected I finished my training and now I'm officially a Guardian. I'll now be able to do missions outside of the City and travel to the Moon. Maybe even go to Venus. And it's all thanks to my best friend, Ghost. Without him, well, I'll still be dead technically.

I sat up in bed and looked around. I was assigned an apartment when I became a Guardian, whereas before I had a crappy dorm room that I shared with another trainee. However, the apartment was still pretty lousy. At least I didn't have to share it with anyone. I got out of bed and looked at myself in the mirror. A person can really change a lot in just a year, I noted. I was an Awoken with a light bluish-purple skin color. I had navy blue hair that was currently in a messy bun with the right side of my head shaved, and bright, light blue eyes. When I first arrived at the City I was weak and skinny. I had no physical abilities whatsoever, and the only thing I knew was how to kill things. A week within training I realized there was no way in hell I'd be a Titan. For a while I thought I was going to become a Hunter, but when I learned magic as quickly as I did, I knew being a Warlock was meant for me. After a year I gained a pretty attractive figure, some muscles, and intense magic abilities. I smiled at myself, and Ghost materialized next to me. He chuckled softly and I could just picture him smiling along with me.

My name is Kyna and I'm ready to face the Darkness.
