As Colonel Lynch watched the van drive away taking his last chance at catching the A-Team and his career with it, there were a million things he wanted to say, many of them exceedingly profane, but the only thing that came out of his mouth was "I don't believe it!".
The reason for this was because, in a single moment, everything fell into place when he had seen that face peering out of the back of the van at him.
Sure, he'd suspected it for years, but it had seemed too insane to be true, especially after he'd gone to the hospital and seen for himself that the man was completely insane, and in no shape to be anywhere in the outside world. But, apparently, despite this fact, he was indeed in the outside world where he didn't belong.
All of the team's insane escapes which would have required a fourth man were explained. After all, who could come up with them and actually pull them off but a madman?
For years, he'd been chasing three men when there were really four, and the fourth was the legendary Howling Mad Murdock who had been everything from a pilot to a spy during his service with the United States Army before he'd been forced to retire for mental health reasons.
And, he stood there knowing that he could say nothing about this because nobody would believe him if he told them.
