I could only stand about five seconds of listening to Amanda and Julia argue over which perfume smelled better: the lemon, or the raspberry, before I pushed between them and hushed them up. I didn't get why they loved Bath and Body Works so much; I didn't enjoy the fact that about a hundred samples were sprayed all over me, making me smell like a blooming daisy. I have my own products; I stick to PINK perfume. I sometimes get allergic reactions from the different products here, but Amanda didn't seem to care.
"Guys!" I said, stepping in between them, and pushing them apart. "It doesn't matter. They both are terrible." Julia gasped, pressing a hand to her mouth, and Amanda shook her head.
"You don't know what you're talking about." Amanda said.
"These are amazing!" Julia protested. I rolled my eyes at them and took one of the bottles they were holding, examining them out of curiosity. How can a glass of liquid actually smell like cinnamon sugar? And how could anyone want to even smell like that?
"You secretly love them. You know that." I laughed at her thoughts-they smelled terrible-and I quickly muffled my laugh when I saw Jev walking past the window doors of the shop. I don't know why he's here; I told him to stay low, because I know Hank is out and about, and if he finds out I know about Jev, it'd make things more complicated than need be.
I need to talk to you, Angel. Jev's voice pierced through my thoughts. I bit my lip, and willed back into focus of my friends, who've summed up another argument.
"I'll be right back, guys." I told them, avoiding to disrupt them or draw any more attention. I was successful in that matter and I rushed out of the doors of Bath and Body Works and turned my head to spot Jev. He was wearing dark washed jeans, with his ball cap tipped down over his black eyes. He wore a black fitted tee with a small chain around his neck. My necklace I had given him.
When Jev spots me, he pushes away from the wall he was leaning on. I could barely open my mouth before he presses his mouth to mine in a rush. "Why are you here?" I asked, after managing to grab a breath and return my heart rate to normal. Jev just smiles at me, a crooked, familiar grin that warns danger.
"It's nice to see you, too." He replied, pushing back some of the hair that escaped my ponytail.
"I told you to stay under the radar." I told him, threatening not to melt under his hands that absent-mindedly stoked my hips.
"I don't think that worked, or will work anymore." He replied, taking a hand away from me to pull out something from the pocket of his jeans. I watched in silence as he pulled out a piece of paper and unfolded it. "Someone saw us." He handed the crinkled up paper to me and I saw a picture of us from last night. It was after our fight, and Jev had his hands cupping my face, kissing me. I blushed at the memory, but managed to look well-composed. "I've no doubt this picture was given to Hank." I nodded slowly, giving the paper back to him.
"How could someone have known….?" I asked, rubbing my forehead. But I couldn't think about that now. I had to focus on what we're going to do now, instead of worrying about what happened yesterday. "I have a plan." I said quickly.
Jev shrugged and sliced through me with his eyes. "I'm all ears."
