Heya. Just a little fic inspired by "Not for the First Time" about the royal traditional kiss on the balcony.

"I now pronounce you, Arthur and Guinevere Pendragon, man and wife."

The organs blared, signalling it was time for Arthur to lead his very heart and soul out of the throne room, which had been a proud host to the wedding of Arthur and Guinevere on the 29th of April. This is where we start. The beginning of an old and lost tradition, only found again 20 years ago.

After the Prince Regent led his future queen out of the throne room, they had a little time to themselves in a room just off the balcony of Camelot Castle, home to the Pendragons.

"We made it Guinevere. We made it!" Arthur said to her, with joy masking his voice.

"Who would have thought? You defied 200 years of tradition for me. I don't know how to repay you for that Arthur," replied Gwen, her tone changing from pure happiness to seriousness.

"You already repaid me once, when you accepted my proposal, and you are going to do it again when I crown you Queen of Camelot. If I am not mistaken my love, it means that we are uneven, and I need to repay you!"

"Stop talking nonsense!"

"Not until you stop!"

"This is not nonsense. This is serious. What if they hate me? They seem happy now, but what if it is all an act? What-"

Gwen's words were cut short, as Arthur had pulled her close, and had pressed his lips to her with such vigour and passion, that Gwen instinctually returned it.

"You have no need to worry. You already are a "People's Queen." People love you even more than me. And now, we need to show them just how much we are meant to be. It is time to go on to the balcony and prove to them just how amazing you truly are."

The doors to the balcony opened, with Arthur and Guinevere entering first, and then Merlin and Gwen's new servant, Aryana following closely behind. After that, it was all their close loved ones – Elyan, Gwaine, Leon, Percival, Lancelot (at Gwen's request, not Arthur's) and of course, Gaius.

"The only person missing is Morgana Arthur. Only Morgana," Gwen whispered sorrowfully.

"I know-. Wait Gwen. Don't you think that's her over there?"

Sure enough, just by the gates to the castle, Morgana's face could just be seen underneath a green cloak, with a wide smile printed on her face. She caught sight of the couple staring at her, so she mouthed the only two words they needed to hear from her to welcome her back with open arms – "I'm sorry"

Arthur nodded to her, and then after, said the four words, that if I'm not mistaken, started tradition. The same words that another prince would say to his new wife centuries later, just the name being differed.

"Gwen, look at me."

Before Gwen could ask why, Arthur touched his lips to hers, and as soon as they kissed for the first time publicly as newly-weds, the crowd around the castle erupted into cheers, with everyone clapping, including Morgana.

Merlin knew this was a very special day, as it was the start of a tradition. He knew he would be the one who carried it on, passing the story down for generations, so that one day, when Arthur's child gets married, they will continue the tradition, and from then on, all newly-wed royal couples would do this. Pulling out of his thoughts, he turned to the happy couple, and applauded the loudest of them all.

How was it? I was a bit upset with my last fics, seeing as I got over 2,000 hits, but 2-4 reviews. How sadly lame is that! Look at the little button there. It says "Review" follow the instructions it'll give you, and you will get a cookie. Or chocolate. Or sweets. Even a full roast dinner if you like!
