Prologue
With a small pop a man appeared on a dimly lit street with a baby and two toddlers. "Daddy!" the girl whined "I don't want to leave you!" The man bent down "Shhh, Adolfine, you must go take care of your brothers and keep the book with you always. Adolfine held her baby brother in one arm and the book in the other. Her other brother stood next to her crying. "Please, be good," the man said "I love very much but you must stay here." Adolfine nodded "Yes, Daddy, we'll stay," she said softly. Her dad smiled, kissed them each, then rang the grimy building's bell and disappeared into the night.
