The pool was empty. It always was after school. The water was clear, and extremely still. Edd slipped his hair up inside his cap, and took a deep breath. He dove in elegantly, creating no splashes as his body broke the surface of the water. Edd assumed the water was cold, but he couldn't feel a thing. He swam a couple laps; not nearly as fast as usual. He just didn't feel like it. His face was numb, body frozen. He pulled himself up and over the ledge of the pool and just sat there. He couldn't think; his mind was clouded. It wasn't fair. He looked at his reflection in the water.
Pitiful. How could this happen to her? She's a fucking doctor. I don't understand. Wasn't the reason her and Father have been so distant my entire life is because they went out to learn this shit and save lives?
Edd began to grow angry. Angry at the fact that there was nothing they could do. Angry at how fucking ironic it was. He jumped up and grabbed his clothes. He put on his basketball shorts and jogged out of the door, fuming. He sprinted home, arriving only in a matter of minutes. Being a swimmer for 7 years, Edd's legs were pretty fast. He unlocked the door of the empty house and slipped inside, closing the door behind him and sliding down onto the floor, back against the wooden door.
He buried his hands in his face. He's gotten better at controlling his anger, even if it meant holding it in until he got home. He gripped his hair underneath his hat, pulling the raven locks tightly. It just wasn't fair! He knocked over the end table, smashing the lamp onto the floor. His hands shook as he held himself. He needed to calm down. Even Edd knew that anger couldn't solve this problem, but that ugly word kept repeating itself inside his head. Cancer.
he took deep breaths and laid down on the couch in the messy, messy living room. He would have to deal with that later. Sleep was more important than cleanliness at the moment.
