Author's note: This is actually a poem for a Creative Writing class. The prompt was 'favorite car' and I thought of Danny's Firebird. :] Enjoy.
--------------------------
The bird
Charred black by the sharp tongue of orange flame.
It does not screech as it comes my way.
It snarls, a low rumble of sheer power
Shaking the earth and pounding against naked eardrums.
Demonstrating its superiority.
A predator sending a jolt of attentiveness into lethargic prey.
Muscled cardinal red metallic flesh plows down the unsuspecting road.
The red is bright as a flame in wintered darkness
But does not gleam.
Its coat not worn, but remains unpolished.
A testament to its raw force.
Refusing to show even a bit of soft gentility.
A brutal creature
Like the shadow of black under the five year old's bed.
Broad, pointed snout sports a smug air
Pulling up next to me with a snicker of black, putrid smoke.
Allowing me to admire, desire.
Want.
Always referred to as she
But the cocky air of a he.
A brawny, sleek hermaphrodite
In some strange and twisted way.
A sigh escapes my parched lips
As we commence the same dance.
Flaunt yearn, flaunt yearn.
One two, one two.
Repeat.
Grudgingly, I rip my gaze from the arrogant, purring beast
To its wrangler.
Dressed in usual garb,
leather against leather.
Calloused, worn fingers caressing his lover.
Chestnut locks tamed back with the grease of his girl.
Tilting down of the head, black shades slipping down slim nose.
Pools of chocolate brown gleaming
With wicked amusement.
A smirk plays on full lips,
the wicked, simple twist of mouth the equivalent
of a hollow, spiteful kiss.
A roar splits the air.
More ferocious, more sinful
Than even the con-man's allure.
With a squeal and a sneer
They stampede off down the street.
The Freak and his darling girl
Having no time for the Geek.
