Confession

Fire Lord Zuko was at his desk in his royal study, signing proposal after proposal, when he heard the door open. He looked up, ready to give one of his advisors a piece of his mind about all these regulations involving shipping. But all he saw was his wife, leaning on the door frame.

"You know you don't need permission to enter." He reminded her cheekily.

Katara smiled back at him. She looked down at his ever growing pile of papers and frowned. "Maybe I should come back when you aren't as busy." She suggested as she started to turn around, intending to leave him alone with all these damn papers - the pile was almost as tall as he was.

"No, no, stay. I'm in terrible need of a distraction." Zuko replied, persuading her to face him. She slowly walked over to him, almost as if she was the FireLord and not him. It was, to say the least, unnerving. "What's wrong?" He asked.

"Nothing."

"Katara-"

"Really, you're busy and it can wait." She interrupted him, turning around again.

"Tell me." He urged, hoping that she'd turn around and just tell him what the matter was.

She mumbled something under her breath and Zuko couldn't understand what she was saying.

"What?" He asked.

She turned around hesitantly, eyes filled with uncertainty, and repeated herself - louder, "I'm pregnant. And the baby is yours."

Zuko was shocked. He blinked a couple of times, coming to his senses. He ran the short distance towards her and lifted her up, twirling her around the room. He could hear her laughing as he spinned her around and around. Agni, he was laughing himself at the event. He was going to have a child, an heir. He was going to be a father, and Katara a mother. There were so many things to think about - would he be like his father? - but in that moment, Zuko didn't care. It was the second happiest day of his life, the first being him marrying the beautiful and strong waterbender in his arms at that very moment.
