Title: Gingerly
AN: Written for Furuba Flash Bingo on FBFC (link's in my profile, you should check it out!). rustle, Akito/Shigure.

No one can say no to her. A raised finger, a rustle of the sheets, a word. That's all it took for them to come scurrying. To feed her, to entertain her, to kiss her. She doesn't know what consent tastes like.

Shigure blurs the line between love and obligation. He kisses her hard and often, weaves his fingers through her hair, writes poetry about her when he thinks she's sleeping. He's different.

Akito doesn't know if he'd kiss her if she was someone else. She doesn't know why he kisses her now, her mistakes sharp like knives on her breath.

"How can you love me?" she asks, fingers tracing abstract shapes on the skin of his back.

He stares at her wordlessly for a minute, eyes unreadable.

"I can love you painfully."

He knows it's the wrong answer to the wrong question, but it's all that he can provide. She almost understands.
