A/N: Hello guys, Something-Borrowed here! I've decided to completely re-go over this story and I'm really happy with it, editing parts of it and changing character. It's been awhile since I last updated so any audience I ever had is kind of dead, but nonetheless, enjoy!
Rex walked up the steps to Domino High School, muttering bitterly to himself about how much he hated the uniform he was required to wear. He tugged at the cobalt blue material, looking up at the school with a scowl on his face. Starting mid-term would put him in a very awkward position in this new school, but Domino High School was the only one that would take him after he had gotten expelled from his previous high-school. His crimson hat clashed awkwardly with the deep blue material of his school uniform, but he had stated many times over to the staff and administrators that he would not take it off to save his life, and after much arguing they had finally allowed him to keep the hat on, so long as it did not become "too much of a distraction." It was his first day at this new school and Rex wasn't looking forward to it at all.
He took a slip of paper out from his pocket and read it over, looking down the hall to find his locker. People passing by glanced at him curiously, and when they concluded that he was nothing too interesting, they turned their attention away from him, chatting amongst themselves once more as Rex solitarily made his way to his locker. Once he tracked down the locker number that matched the one on his slip of paper, he placed his pack down and began working on the combination. Opening the locker, he emptied the contents of his pack inside and closed it, leaning against the locker in a way that simply stated, 'don't look nor touch.' It wasn't that he was antisocial, just uninteresting as a person, not the type you'd approach out of the blue to talk to.
The years had changed him, albeit only a little bit. He swore more, naturally, his interest swayed way from Duel Monsters. He wasn't as obsessed with dinosaurs as he once had been, but they were still very much a part of him, his interest and his passion.
The brunette closed his eyes in content, contemplating skipping the first day to go get some nachos at the local arcade, when a sharp gasp relatively close to him made him open his eyes in dull interest.
The sight before him made him pause in an almost guilty fashion - Joey Wheeler was in front of him, pointing a finger at him almost accusingly. "You! You can't be!" The Brooklyn accent rang familiarly against Rex's ears, causing his hatred to boil over once more. "Rex Raptor!"
"Yeah, what's it to ya?" Rex spat back, voice harsher than he had intended for it to be. The taller blonde stared down at Rex, clashing looks of watered-down anger and fresh curiosity twisting through his chocolate brown eyes as he examined the boy in front of him.
"I haven't seen you in years." Rex's shoulders relaxed slightly; Joey didn't want to fight him for anything he may still hold a grudge over from their past. "You haven't changed much."
"Neither have you, Wheeler." Rex gave a neutral smirk, eyeing the blonde up and down – he surely hadn't changed much, aside from maybe gaining an inch or two on him. His hair
"You better be nice to the students here, Raptor." Joey growled slightly. "I was wonderin' if I'd ever see you again. We have an actual chance to make this encounter more pleasant than the last ones, if you're willing."
"Hahaha!" Rex's laugh was still the same, chortling out in nasally waves. "I'm not here to cause trouble."
"Good." The blonde cracked a small smile. "Where'd you head off to, anyway?"
"Took a small leave to Yokohama." The shorter brunette responded with a shrug. "Guess no one can shake off Domino, huh?"
"Ha, true that… happy ta' be back?"
"I've been happier, but new beginnings are all around us, or so I was told by some passerby running a psychic booth on my way here."
"Ya surely got time ta make new beginnings, pave over ol' relationships with people." Joey took on an air of deep thinking, hand going up to stroke at his chin. "I mean, not sure if you're the kinda guy who'd want to, but I'm sure others'd be happy to talk to ya."
"You talking about Yugi and his clique?"
"Well, yeah… it's a start, at least."
The brunette shrugged at that. "True. If I see them, I guess it wouldn't kill me to say hi."
"Good." The blonde gave a small smile. "Now I gotta meet Tristan and Yugi, so I guess I should take my leave."
"Catch ya later, Wheeler."
Joey left Rex alone to continue his solitary relaxing by his locker until the bell rang. Groaning, Rex picked up the supplies he had left out and walked in the direction of his first class, a map of the school and a schedule atop his books
The school-day passed by uneventfully – since Rex was new in the middle of the semester, most of the stuff the teachers taught didn't apply to him, were above his level of comprehension, or were some group activity that he was not required to take part in. Finally, the final bell rang and Rex walked to the front doors, holding his head down to look at some paper the teacher passed out that he had had no interest in reading. The small letters of the paper irritated the brunette-haired ruffian, and when he slammed head-first into somebody and fell onto his rear on the floor, his immediate reaction was to swear at whoever it was that was unfortunate enough to get in his way. He looked up at the person who had slammed into him who had also been knocked to the ground via collision, frantically searching for his glasses along the tiles of the floor. Rex had barely begun to yell at the unfortunate passerby before realization hit him like a brick, and he stared at the aqua-haired boy in front of him with his jaw agape.
The boy in front of him finally managed to grab blindly for his glasses, placing them on his face and blinking as his eyes refocused. He took one look at Rex and his jaw dropped his well, a small gasp emitting from him as the two exchanged identical looks of shock.
"Rex Raptor?"
"Weevil Underwood?"
