Severus' heart pounded in a new way, threatening to burst forth from his chest, which scared him and only caused it to beat faster. He took a deep, extremely shaky breath. It was just Lily Evans, only Lily Evans. Oh, who was he kidding? Lily Evans wasn't just someone, she was unique, beautiful and unique.

As he came up over the small hill that lead to their place by the pond, he saw a flash of blood red light. He smiled, as he came upon Lily, patiently awaiting him. "Severus, what took you so long?" She asked,"I thought you had forgotten me." She smiled. "No, Lily, of course not. Who could forget about you?" He flashed a white smile, which stood out quite dashingly up against his black, shining mop of hair. "Mum, had me doing work, didn't want to upset dad." His smile faded.

Lily reached out and took his hand, smiling once more. "You don't need them, it's only a few more months until we both go to Hogwarts!" Her green eyes sparkled like emeralds, Snape couldn't help but smile. "That's true, Lil."

She walked him over nearer the pond, before lying down on her back. "Tell me again about the wizarding world, Sev, please." Severus smiled,"Lily, I've told you about it a hundred thousand times, what else do you want to know?" He chuckled. Lily blushed,"Anything, I don't care if I've heard it three million times."

Giving in to her award winning smile, Snape delved back into telling Lily all about Azkaban, Hogwarts, and Hogsmede Village. "We'll have to go together, Sev. Promise you'll take me?" She pleaded, sitting up. "Of course, Lily. I'll take you and we can visit every shop there! We'll go to Zonkos and the candy shop, the shrieking shack, and the robe store. And I'll buy you the prettiest robe they have."

Lily laughed. Snape, realizing how much audacity he had just shown, blushed, slinking back, and looking down at the grass. Lily clapped her hands, before throwing her arms around his neck. "Sounds perfect! Oh, I can't wait!" Snape hugged Lilly's small frame, smiling. Neither could he.

He sat up straighter, reluctant, as she pulled away from his embrace. "I just remembered," he said, standing, and reaching into his jacket pocket. Lily stared up at him, curiously. Snape pulled out a small, red and pink object, shyly handing it to Lily.

She clasped it in her small hand, turning it over and opening it. She looked up at him quickly, it was a Valentine! "I-it's alright if you don't want it, or like it," he stammered nervously. She stood, a scowl on her face. Snape frowned.

It took everything Lily had to keep a straight face. "Severus Snape!" she began, taking a step towards him,"I love it!" She hugged him around the neck, keeping the precious gift held out at a safe distance so as not to crush it. Snape smiled, the words 'I love you,' nearly escaping his lips for the first time in his life.
