Title: Probie is Not Stupid

Summary: McGeek notices things. Written as Tony/Gibbs slash (it's me, what were you expecting), but you can take it any way you want.

Rating: Pg-PG13-ish

Disclaimer: Characters are not mine; they are merely playing in my sandbox.

POV: McGee

Author's note: Because, while I am writing probably another dozen stories, my brain liked this idea. I am also convinced that there is a muse out there somewhere who either likes me very much, or wants my brain to explode.

Probie is Not Stupid

I'm not stupid. They might think I don't notice things, but I do.

I see the way they look at each other.

I know Abby sees it. Ducky probably does too. They're not stupid.

I know that Ziva doesn't see it. And I know Kate never did.

I don't even think they see it.

Tony tries his hardest. It might not seem like it, but he does. It probably always seems like he's goofing around, but I know he's not.

He does all the work he knows Gibbs will want, and makes sure we do the same. He only fools around once were done with every conceivable action is done. And even a few inconceivable ones.

When Gibbs catches him goofing off, Tony acts like a dog that just caught chewing up your favorite pair of shoes, but he always has the answers he needs. He's ready to do whatever the boss needs, even before he knows needs it.

Tony tries his hardest to get Gibbs to notice him. He strives for his attention. To receive some form of gratitude in return. He doesn't realize he gets it every day.

-

When he thinks no one is watching, Gibbs watches.

He doesn't think anyone notices, but I do. He just stares at Tony while he works, smiling. Well, maybe not smiling, but the closest thing Gibbs has (in public at least).

Gibbs knows that Tony will always be the one person he can count on (besides Abby and Ducky, but they are different). He knows that Tony will follow him blindly, he just doesn't realize why.

He is the one person he trusts to take over when he's gone. He knows that Tony will not screw up, that he will always do what's right.

Gibbs always lets up go early when were not on a case, but he respects those who stay later. He respects Tony for sacrificing his free time to sit in the half-lit bullpen. To sit with Gibbs in comfortable silence.

-

They are the same, yet different in so many ways they don't even realize.

They both go above and beyond the call of duty for each other. I can't count the numbers of times they have saved each other. Without each other, they'd both be dead.

Neither sees how much the other cares, but maybe the simple things are enough.

Tell me what you think.
