La Descente de l'Ange

The Angel started life as though in a spell,

Her hair full of gold and her teeth full of pearls.

A innocent creature who was trapped inside hell,

She desired to change her life with a bang and a whirl.

She passed through the first Seven Circles, but stopped at the Eighth,

That foul nest of whores and vipers.

She accepted the cunning young Jason's bait,

And never had the fruits of life seemed riper!

He took her away on Virgil's wings

And showed her to the world.

With the beautiful Graces she started to sing:

"Tis good to a merry young girl!"

What magical times she did discover

As Jason's charms clutched at her heart.

There in that grove they stood, swearing to love forever

And promising never, never to part.

He showed her the power of the summer sun

And stayed always by her side.

But at last when autumn begun

He fled, fancying the change of the tide.

But oh! Little he knew, little did he care

That by him the Angel had a little girl.

That was never his burden to share

And he left them to the mercies of the world.

To protect is sometimes to abandon.

The Angel left her child to the care of a wicked Mercury and his wife

And pined her hopes on an ascension.

How that hope would forever shatter her life.

Turned away by the light and mocked by the dark,

She tried in vain to keep her pride.

But she could not stop Fate from leaving its mark

And everywhere she went she was turned aside.

And with saddened heart she realized

Her hopes were now torn at the seams.

And never did she sing a song so sad

As when life killed the dream she dreamed.
