Sounds of running footsteps echoed in the halls. Kai's small feet made contact with the light brown wooden floors, making creaking sounds as he went. The footsteps stopped suddenly. Kai was facing a large door. He had to look up to see how high the door knob was.
It was pretty high, since he was very small and short. He made a small wince at the sight of the shiny door knob that was a few centimeters away from his height. He bent his knees, glaring at the door knob before he leaped at it like a ninja. He did grab it and pulled it down with his weight, successfully opening the door.
He beamed with delight and pride before he walked out of the house and to the very place he wanted to go: his father's workshop. It wasn't that far away. It only took just a few seconds or a minute to get there. The little boy ran to the workshop without thinking twice. He left the door open, but he didn't care or notice. He just wanted to find his mom, but he couldn't find her anywhere in the house. He thought she was helping his dad with work again, even though it was Saturday.
He peeked inside the workshop from an open window. The metal clanging together was heard inside, making Kai immediately know that his dad was inside working. He quickly scrambled to the front of the workshop, rushing in through the entrance. There were no doors in the workshop, but Kai didn't mind it.
He saw his father, swinging a heavy metal hammer on a copper stone. Kai tugged on his father's worn jeans to get his attention before he spoke up in a small voice, "Daddy, where's mommy?"
His father set his hammer down on a table, wiping a sweat from his forehead. He wiped his dirty rusty hands on his shirt before patting Kai's head gently. "Mommy went to the doctor," his father explained, giving him a slight warm smile. "Just to get a checkup."
"Is she sick?" Kai asked innocently, his big brown eyes sparkling in curosity.
His father shrugged his shoulders a bit, "I'm not sure, Kai. She was throwing up this morning. Let's just hope she's alright."
Kai only nodded meekly before setting his eyes on the beautiful swords his father had created. They were just lying on that one giant table, gleaming under the sunlight. His eyes sparkled in delight as he poked his father multiple times before he pointed at the swords excitedly, "Can I make a sword like you, daddy?"
He only responded with a hearty laugh. He found it adorably cute whenever Kai excitedly talked about making a sword in the future. He messed with Kai's brown hair, chuckling, "When you're older, kid."
Kai made a pout, crossing his arms. He didn't like the fact that he wasn't allowed to make swords, but he also didn't like the fact that his father keeps messing his hair. "But I am older!" He protested. "I'm five and a half!"
"Not that old, son," he chuckled slightly before giving a gentle pat in the back. "You should make a 'get well soon' card for mommy so she feels better. I'm sure she'll love it!"
It seemed like Kai suddenly had forgotten about the whole conversation as he jumped in excitement. "I make mommy a card!" He made a huge grin before running to the house to find his crayons. His father could only shake his head in amusement as he watched the boy run to home as fast as his little legs can carry him.
A/N: Ayyyy, sorry for the extremely short remake of the chapter. :'P At least it's better than the last one, no? But I'll be sure to make the rest of the chapters longer! Stay tuned for more remakes of my old chapters and new ones!
Stay positive, Imaginers!
