(A/N) I absolutely love this song, so I figured I'd make a oneshot songfic. I'm glazing over the egg thing, because it was in the song and had to be included. So don't get mad at me.
I hear the clock, it's six a.m.
I feel so far from where I've been
Rachel woke up to her alarm, happy. Then remembered. It was officially two years since Finn had broken up with her.
Since she'd messed up.
I got my eggs I got my pancakes too
I got my maple syrup, everything but you.
I break the yolks, make a smiley face
I kinda like it in my brand new place
She made breakfast, humming a song she had heard at the coffee shop the week before. She couldn't remember for a second where she had put the syrup, but she figured her new apartment would take some getting used to. It was closer to the dance studio, and closer to the school where she was taking classes for her Performing Arts degree. The same school Finn had ended up at. She saw him sometimes.
But it was the weekend, and she wouldn't be seeing him today.
I wipe the spots off the mirror
Don't leave the keys in the door
Never put wet towels on the floor anymore
She took a quick shower and put her hair in braids, wiping off the mirror and cleaning up as she went.
I called my momma, she was out for a walk
Consoled a cup of coffee but it didn't wanna talk
She phoned Shelby, but she was busy with Beth.
She went down to the coffee shop and sat alone for a while, feeling especially lonely. She couldn't believe it had been two years.
So I picked up a paper, it was more bad news
More hearts being broken or people being used
She paid the guy at the counter for a paper, hoping it would distract her, but it was just more of the same old news. People dying, wars raging, and the economy falling again.
Put on my coat in the pouring rain
I saw a movie it just wasn't the same
'Cause it was happy or I was sad
It made me miss you oh so bad
She left the coffee shop, putting on her shiny black raincoat and walked across the street to the cinema. She paid blindly to see a movie she hadn't heard of, walked in, sat down, and cried because she was surrounded by couples on dates.
She left halfway through.
I go about my business, I'm doing fine
Besides what would I say if I had you on the line
Same old story, not much to say
Hearts are broken, everyday.
She went to the studio after that, dancing for hours without thinking. When she finally started to walk home, it was dark, but it wasn't raining anymore.
She wished it was. She hated when strangers saw her cry. The rain would have covered for her.
When she got home, she flipped through channels, seeing the same old shows, nothing new.
I brush my teeth and put the cap back on
I know you hate it when I leave the light on
I pick a book up. Turn the sheets down.
And then I take a deep breath and a good look around
Put on my pjs and hop into bed
I'm half alive but I feel mostly dead
I try and tell myself it'll be all right
I just shouldn't think anymore tonight 'cause
She got ready for bed, and started to read an old book she hadn't read in years. Not since high school. Not since Finn. It was a sweet romance, and she had imagined the wedding in the end as hers and his. She got three pages in before she couldn't see through the tears.
She turned off the lamp and curled up under the covers.
Just another day.
Dreams last so long
Even after you're gone
I know you love me
And soon you will see
You were meant for me
And I was meant for you
