Disclaimer: haha

Author's Note: It's impossible for me to write a long fic, let alone a long one-shot. Sorry 'bout that. So much thanks to my great beta, LauriAnn. I couldn't have done this without you.

"I just want you to know, this thing we're doing here? I'm in. I am all in."

Her heart skipped a beat. Did she miss a step? No, she'd been sitting the whole time. Who knew Luke could be so romantic? Luke Danes, diner owner; Luke Danes, coffee supplier; Luke Danes, loving friend; Luke Danes, her Luke.

"Are you scared?" he questioned, noting her expression.

She paused. Why did she pause? Was she thinking? She didn't appear to be thinking. She kept steady eye contact with him. But it was different now. There was something new in her eyes; like he'd never actually looked into her eyes before and really seen her. Really seen inside her. Why was she staring at him like that? He'd been getting that look a lot lately.

"No." Simple. Perfect. A thousand words. And she meant it. How could things with Luke be so awkward, yet so comfortable? So completely natural?

He reached over and placed his hand over hers. She was trembling slightly. Or was he? A waiter interrupted the moment to take their orders; a salad and turkey burger for him, fries and a cheeseburger for her.

"Will you stop poking me with that?" He swatted her French fry-clad hand away.

"No, not until you eat it."

"Why would I eat something dripping with grease?"

"Because you want to kill yourself."

"It may come to that," he muttered.

"Hey! I heard that! And so did the fry!"

"Fine," he sighed, "I'll eat your stupid death stick if you eat a bite of my salad."

She glanced at his plate, contemplating the offer. Was that a leaf? Why would someone pay to eat a leaf?

"Cut it out. I don't want your French fries in my ears!"

The drive back was only ten minutes, but Lorelai was unusually quiet.

"Are you okay?" He wasn't sure if the silence was good or bad.

"Hmmm? Yeah." She unbuckled her seat belt and scooted closer to him. She leaned her head against his shoulder as he wrapped an arm around her. This was the closest they'd been since they'd become more than friends. He couldn't help but notice just how close they were. Their thighs were touching, and oh, God, did she have to breathe on him like that? Luckily, they were almost there.

He pulled up in front of the diner.

"Do you want to come in for some coffee?"

"Coffee....yeah."
He wasn't sure how they'd ended up in his apartment; he really had intended on just a cup of coffee. Why were they standing? And why was she standing so close to him? He could smell her – fruity, spicy, and very feminine. A wave of heat washed over him. God, what was she doing to him? She was looking at him, that's all. Looking at him, standing a few inches from his face. He couldn't stand it. He took a shaky breath. She seemed so calm. He leaned forward and brushed his lips against hers. She kissed him back. It was slow and deliberate at first, but quickly turned heated. His hands were on her back and hers were tangled in his hair. She dropped her jacket on the floor and led him to the bed. He trailed soft kisses down her neck and across her collarbone as she unbuttoned his shirt. She giggled.

He looked up. "What?" Did he accidentally tickle her?

"You're in. You're all in," she replied, a playful smirk spreading across her face.

He looked puzzled.

"Dirty!" she exclaimed, laughing at his expression.

"Aw, jeez."

Reviews very much appreciated, as this is my first fic.
