"Zack, you know I love you right?" Angeal whispered.
Zack nodded on the other side of the phone, "Yes! Yes, I love you! Please don't do that, don't say that! You'll come back!"
Angeal shook his head, frowning, "I might not be back. You know that there's a risk for every mission." He peeked over the bushes and sighed, "Zack, I have to go." He hung up the phone, the last thing he heard was Zack yelling for him.
A Wutai soldier came closer, inspecting the bush that Angeal was hiding in.
Angeal wielded his buster sword and launched at the man, swiftly silencing him before taking down another Wutai soldier. He silently groaned when another soldier began to walk down the path, his sword at the ready. He took down the man quickly and continued along the path.
Zack had been waiting nervously for a week and a half. He continued to ask Lazard when Angeal was going to be back or if he could know the details.
Zack finally gave up after two weeks and stayed in Angeal's apartment, crying most of the time.
Genesis and Sephiroth had come over a couple of times; Sephiroth had only come because Genesis had dragged him there.
They tried their best to help Zack but when efforts were wasted, they stopped coming.
Zack waited for a whole month, praying that Angeal was okay.
One night, Zack was asleep on Angeal's bed when a loud click was heard and the front door opened. The hinges creaked as it was opened further.
Zack's eyes snapped open and he quietly snuck out into the living room, preparing for a fight. He turned on the light and lunged at the intruder.
The stranger grunted as Zack punched him in the stomach. He said quickly in a familiar voice, "Zack! Zack calm down! Puppy!"
Zack froze at the mention of his nickname. "What?" He looked up the stranger to find out he knew that face. He ran his fingers over the older man's face, staring. He whispered, "Angeal."
Angeal smiled and nodded, "Yeah, its me."
Zack felt tears well up in his eyes as he grabbed Angeal's shirt and pulled him close, sobbing into the fabric. He cried out, "Why did you leave me?"
Angeal held Zack as he cried, whispering soothing words to the younger boy. "I couldn't contact Shinra to tell them what was going on. I'm so sorry, Zack."
Zack didn't respond and kept clinging to Angeal, his body shaking as he sobbed. He shook his head, chanting, "I'm not dreaming. I'm not dreaming."
Angeal picked up the boy and carried him to their bedroom, setting Zack down. He wiped away his tears and helped Zack under the covers. He laid down beside the younger boy, wrapping his arms around him. "I'm sorry."
