Attack of the Mary Sue
Sunlight was spreading through the Sohma estate. The pale morning sun lit up the dark, silent gardens and filtered through the windows of one of the many houses. Though the sun had only risen, Sohma Hatori had been awake for some time.
Something didn't feel right. He'd woken up with a feeling of unease, that had grown with the amount of daylight coming into the kitchen. Glancing at the clock, Hatori groaned inwardly. He should have stayed in bed for at least another half-hour. He didn't have any paperwork to catch up with; he'd finished it all last night. With nothing to distract him from the mysterious anxiety, he could only brood.
That plan was cut short by a loud knock on his door. He stood up from the kitchen table to answer it, frowning slightly. Why didn't they ring the doorbell..?
He walked quickly down the hall, exhaling and inhaling deeply, trying to banish the edgy feeling, and slid the front door open.
A strange girl smiled brightly up at him.
"HI!"
Hatori's eyebrows shot up. Before he could ask this woman who she was, she started talking rapidly.
"Guess what? I'm your new assistant, starting from today! Surprised? Well, get this! I know about the curse and I can somehow hug you without you transforming! Isn't that great?"
Who is this girl? His eyebrows had settled back down after the initial shock, but at the word 'curse' they lowered even more. There was something vaguely familiar about this incident…The nameless girl was still chatting to him, but he was able to tune her out somewhat; he had been doing it to Ayame for years.
"Here let me show you!"
To his obvious discontent, the girl lunged at him, arms wide. Almost instinctively, he caught her head and kept her at arms length. She did not seem to notice, but kept trying to reach him.
"Who are you?"
The girl stopped struggling.
"I'm your new assist-"
"That's not what I ment."
In a flash, the hyperactive stranger had jumped back, and with a flourish and a smile that could have ment something in her point of view, saluted.
"My name is Sohma-"
Inside Hatori's fatigued head, something clicked.
"Wait. Don't say it…"
He sighed and rubbed his temples.
"…You're another Mary Sue."
The girl's face dropped a bit, and suddenly her whole body froze, her smile stuck in place. A gong sound accompanied the change. The girl keeled over, revealing Shigure holding a frying pan. Hatori nodded in acknowledgement.
"Thanks."
Shigure grinned triumphantly.
"No at all Ha-san! My intuition told me that there were a few prowling around."
"You got one too?"
Shigure nodded, his expression pensive.
"Although it has been a while."
"Mmm… Did you check on anyone else?"
"No-"
Someone was walking towards them, accompanied by giggling. Hatori's hand flew to his forehead, and Shigure's face bore an expression of bemusement.
"Oh god."
"Haru...?"
Haru turned to them, fangirls literally draped on each arm.
"What?"
…
Short and to the point. XD No offence to anyone, but a Mary Sue parody had to be made sooner or later.
