Chapter 1

Tap tap tap...TAPTAPTAP

...4:40 p.m. Kikyo sighed in annoyance as her foot continued to beat out a steady rhythm on the sidewalk underneath her 3 1/2 inch peep toe louboutins. Her perfectly manicured nails dug into the silky smooth skin of her palms as she cursed under her breath. "Damnit Inuyasha!" She practically growled her tongue lolling over the bright pink bubble gum she had but seconds ago placed in her mouth.

Kikyo was not a very patient individual, the mere word 'tardy' made the fine hairs on the back of her gracefully long neck raise on end. It was 4:40. 4:40 as in 10 minutes after the end of school-meaning 5 minutes after Inuyasha was supposed to have picked her up.

Just as she was nearing her very last of reserved nerves an obnoxious, sleek, black, expensive Bentley idled up slowly, coming to a full stop before her. The car itself screamed luxury from the brand name to its custom grill all the way to the large chrome rims the car sported.

The boy driving leaned over to appraise her through the lens of his non descript sunglasses. Kikyo glanced around at the quickly emptying parking lot, noticing the awed stares of the rest of the student body. She pasted a sunny smile on her face as she 'waited patiently' as the boy fumbled to unhook his seatbelt and hurried out of the car.

"Sorry Kikyo," he apologized sheepishly, flashing his fangs as he shot her a quick timid smile, "ran into a few of the guys and lost track of time...you know how it is." He shrugged and hurried to open the door for her.

"No Inuyasha I do not know how it is," Kikyo growled as she pushed her custom Hermes bag into his arms and glared at her new gold banded Michael Kors watch, "it's 4:45!"

Kikyo quickly slid into the passenger seat, settled into the plush cherry red leather seat, and shut the door on whatever apology the boy was about to sprout next. Kikyo hated apologies more than she hated tardiness. To regret, to be sorry...the words were foreign concepts. Kikyo believed she had enough mental capacity to judge her actions before she acted on them, thus eliminating any need to regret.

Kikyo leant her head back against the seat completely ignoring Inuyasha as he got in and pressed the button to power the engine. The engine hummed to life and Inuyasha peeled away from the curb smoothly.

They drove in terse silence for a few moments until Inuyasha decided to break the ice. "I'm sorry Kikyo it won't happen again," Inuyasha apologized.

Kikyo nodded. "Make sure it doesn't," she replied and once more they lapsed into silence.

"You can't stay long today," He apologized as he turned up the street leading to the secluded Taisho estate. "Mom has all kinds of people coming over for Rin's birthday planning. She hired three separate event planners!" Inuyasha laughed, "you'd think it was a graduation and not a 7 year old birthday party."

"That sounds just like your mother," Kikyo agreed, "the one thing I like about her-she knows how to throw a good party."

Inuyasha ignored the jab, used to Kikyo's underhanded comments regarding his mothers humanity. After all she wasn't the only one with in The Society that disagreed with his fathers choice in a mate. Though most tended to whisper behind the backs of the Taishos Kikyo had always been more brazen-it was one thing that had first attracted him to her.
