DISCLAIMER: I don't own House of Anubis.

For years, Eddie had taken his last name 'Miller' with pride. To him, not sharing a last name with his father was relieving in some way, it was like the burden of expectation was lifted off of him. And honestly? In his early teen years, Eddie didn't want anything to do with this so called father of his.

So he took his mom's maiden name.

And it all worked out great, even during a portion of his time at Anubis House. Until Patricia accidently gave away his secret over loudspeaker, but they were over that now.

But…hearing Victor…hearing that his dad didn't consider him a son…hearing the cold, hard truth that Mr. Sweet had never asked Eddie if he wanted to share a last name….okay, ouch. That hurt.

Was he really a disgrace to his father? His distinguished father with the spectacles and the handkerchiefs and the finely tailored suit? His father who thought a good time was sipping tea in his office, alone and undisturbed? His father who never tried to contact him before the age of sixteen, and even then it was a two minute phone call discussing flight details?

So, yes, Eddie was doubtful. Maybe he was a disgrace, and maybe that was why his father never tried to talk to him before. Maybe that was a sign, a sign that Eddie was worthless to his father, nothing but a little pawn in his games.

Eddie tried to believe himself, he tried to tell himself it was for protection, it was because he was the osirian. That was why he was kept away.

But Victor's voice was slowly creeping into his head, messing with his mind and getting tangled in his thoughts.

And his doubts overtook him that night, lying in bed after saving himself from the crypt.

His father didn't care.

A/N: Does anyone else think this is why Eddie is now listed as Eddie M. in the character list instead of Eddie S.? So that Victor and him could have that pivotal scene without all of us fanfiction people going all crazy psycho bitch like "BUT IT HAS EDDIE S IN THE CHARACTER LIST! HA, WE BEAT YOU! HE DID TAKE HIS DAD'S LAST NAME EVENTUALLY!"

Just me? Okay.
