"Sh..." the woman whispered, hiding the small child in the closet. "It's going to be alright, no one is going to find you." Her voice cracked as tears began running down her face. "You'll be okay. I promise."
The toddler was crying quietly. "But- but what about you?"
She smiled affectionately, the tears still rolling down her cheeks. "I'll be fine. Just trust me." She knelt down so that her face was equal to his. "Promise me that you will stay in this closet, under these blankets, until they leave. Okay?"
The child smiled weakly. "Okay." More tears were streaming down his face than they were earlier.
The woman kissed his forehead, several of her tear drops falling gently on his head. "Ezra-" she said. "Always remember that I love you."
Tears had begun to well up in Hera's eyes, and it was obvious that the rest of the crew was sympathetic too. Ezra sighed. "That's- that's all I remember. I don't even remember who "they" were."
"Ezra-" Hera said. "You didn't have to tell us this if you didn't want to."
"No, no, it's fine." Hera looked at Ezra with sympathy. He had told her before he didn't have parents, but she didn't expect his story to be so emotional.
There was am eerie silence, until finally Kanan spoke. "I know who it was."
Ezra looked at Kanan. "What do you mean?"
"Ezra, think about it. You have the Force inside of you. You are strong with it. The Imperials- they must have been looking for you. You were hiding- they assumed you were dead, and left."
The realization seemed to dawn on Ezra. "I- they-" He stuttered, not knowing what to say. His hands clenched into tight fists. Kanan was taken back seeing the sudden, burning hatred in Ezra's eyes.
"Ezra- the Jedi way! Don't let your anger control you!"
"You wouldn't understand Kanan!" Ezra yelled. "They killed my parents. My parents did nothing, and they're dead now! You lost nothing! You lost no one! Your family is alive. Mine is not!"
In truth, Kanan had lost his family. His friends, his master, everyone he knew amongst the Jedi Order- they were gone.
Kanan wasn't the only one who was shocked by Ezra's outburst. Hera, who know of Kanan's losses, gasped. "Ezra..." she said softly. "You know that's not true."
Ezra seemed to realize what he had just said when he saw Kanan's hurt expression. "Kanan-" he said. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean-"
Kanan looked at Ezra. "I know." he said, cutting him off. "You just have to learn to control that anger, Ezra."
Ezra looked down. "I know."
