Edward sat bolt upright, panting as though he had just run a marathon.
His golden bangs where plastered to his face with sweat, and his eyes wide with fear. He glanced around, realizing it had just been a dream.
He gave a small sigh of relief, golden eyes staring out the window of his cozy, but almost empty, temporary bedroom.
There was a shy knock at the door, and he gave a tired grunt, letting whoever was there know they could come in.
Winry poked her head around the door, her pretty features contorted with worry.
" You….. You where calling in your sleep again." She murmured in soft tones, finally picking up the courage to wander into the room, the candle she held in her hand sending out a small flickering light.
Edward made no response, but fixed his hard gaze on her, watching as she approached.
Winry place the candle down gently on the small table near Edward's bed, then sat herself down at the end of the bed.
" Maybe if we talked about these dr-.."
" No." He growled firmly, turning away, scowling stubbornly at the small table next to him.
" But maybe I could he-.."
" I don't need help! I always do things on my own! And I certainly don't need any pity!" He snapped at her, glaring now.
Winry's lip trembled, and one small tear fell down her check as she leapt to her feet, stomping to the door.
" I wish you guys would tell me something! Anything! I just want to help!" She yelled angrily at him, slamming the door behind her.
Edward quickly got to his feet, mentally slapping himself. He shouldn't have snapped at Winry. And being tired because of damn dreams was no excuse!
Quickly, he followed, creeping through the Rockbell household, trying not to wake anyone.
Alphonse was at his door in minutes, clanking with each step.
" Brother, what did you do now?" He asked in a small voice, glancing down the hallway to Winry's room, which was where she was now taking refuge.
" I didn't mean to make her cry." He mumbled angrily, more to himself than Al.
He continued down the hall, Al trying to creep behind him, but failed, deciding merely to stand guard in the hallway.
Being a suit of armour had its drawbacks. Like being unable to sneak quietly anywhere.
Edward slowly turned the doorknob of his mechanic's room, pushing it open gently.
Winry was sitting at her desk, tears slowly running down her face, hands twirling a large bolt.
" Winry, uh, look I uh.." Edward stammered, looking at his feet.
Winry looked up, baby blue eyes glistening with tears.
" No. I've had enough Edward. You either come clean, or I won't talk to you." She said, voice cracking near the end of her statement.
Ed could tell it was she was serious.
" Look, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to snap at you. It's just… that… I'm so used to keeping things.. well, secret." He murmured, unintentionally walking further into the room.
Winry stared at him expectantly.
" Well, if you really want to know.." Ed murmured in reply to her gaze, once again looking sheepishly down at his feet.
"I was just uh... Dreaming about the night me and Al transmuted Mum."
Winry's eyes softened, but she made no move, not wanting him to stop.
" And there's a figure looking down on us. I don't know who it is, but… it seems evil."
Once more Edward looked up, and baby blue orbs met gold.
There was silence between them, as Winry slowly seemed to digest the small amount of information given to her.
" Oh." Was all she uttered. Edward's face blank, he shuffled out of the room, lack of sleep finally taking its toll. His eyelids drooped, and slowly he half dragged half walked back to his bed, a million thoughts rushing through his mind.
