Chapter 1
"Who are you going to ask, Hermione?"Ginny asked after lunch, as they were heading back to their classes. They had just found out that the school would be having a Christmas ball on the second-to-last day before the two week vacation.
"I don't know," Hermione answered.
"I'm going with Dean, of course,"Ginny said. "He's so cute, isn't he?"
Hermione nodded, butDean wasn't exactly her type. She wished she could ask Ron, but of course he would be going with Lavender Brown.
"Well, I'm off to my transfiguration class,"Ginny said. "I'll see you later, ok?"
"Ok,"Hermione answered. "Bye."
"Bye,"Ginny said, and left.
Hermione made her way to the charms classroom and met Harry there.
"Where were you?"He asked.
"I was walking with Ginny,"she answered. "I don't see Ron here."
"I don't see Lavender here either," Harry said, chuckling. "Those two are pretty mischevious."
"I just hope they won't go too far," Hermione added. "You know how Lavender gets."
"Yeah," Harry said. "So, have you thought about who you're going to the ball with?"
"No," Hermione said. "I don't know if I'm even going to go with a date."
"Come on," Harry said. "Everyone's going with a date!"
"Who are YOU taking?" Hermione asked.
"Who do you think?"Harry answered. "Mandy, of course."
"Right,"Hermione said. She had almost forgotten about Mandy. Mandy was Harry's new girlfriend. She was a blondeprep, and Hermione hated her. She didn't think Harry was into those girls, but apparently he was.
"Why do you like Mandy so much?"Hermione asked. "She's atotal slut!"
"Why doyou HATE her so much?"Harryanswered. "She's not so bad once you get to know her."
"She's only nice to you because you're the most famous wizard in the world," Hermione said.
"Face it, Harry. She's one of them!"
"No she's not!"Harry said. "She'ssweet, generous and beautiful."
Hermione made a frustrated noise.Guys, she thought, shaking her head.
Ron and Lavender had arrived twenty minutes late. Flitwick wasn't so happy about that.
"Mr.Weasley and Miss.Brown!"He said. "You are twenty minutes late!I expect better from both ofyou. I am afraid I'm going to havetake 10 points from Gryffindor for this."
Hermione groaned. Leave it to Ron to screw things up, she thought, frowning at him.
Rongave Harry andHermione an apologetic look, and wentto sit beside Lavender.
They practiced different hair charms andcharms that changed the colour of theireyes until it was time for History of Magic.
"That was an interesting lesson," Hermione said. "Do I still havebright turqoise eyes,Harry?"
"Er..yeah," Harry said. "Sorry, Iforgot to change them back to brown!"
"Her hair isstill purple with brown streaks too," Ron said with a snigger. Hermione frowned at him.
"Come on, can't you remember the charms?"Hermioneasked desperately. "I can't go to History of Magic looking like this!"
"I think it looks ratherpretty," said a dreamy voice coming from behind them. It was, of course, Luna Lovegood. Ron laughed. "What?" He said. "Are you out of your mind?"
"No,"Luna said."I'm just saying what I think. I'll see you all later."
Harry and Ronstarted laughingas soon as she walked away.
"Stop it!"Hermione said. "I need you guys to help me get rid of this!"
"We'll have to wait until after classes,"Harry said. "Sorry."
Hermione groaned.
