Why couldn't Gray just love her back?
Why is it that every advance she made failed?
Juvia was no fool. She could see clear as day that Gray didn't love her. At least, not in the same way she did him. Yes, she made some crazy assumptions about the things he said, but could you blame her? She was hopelessly in love with the man who showed her the sun, the man who took away the rain, the one who changed her life. She was reasonably desperate for him to feel the same. So, of course she was going to hope with all her heart that some of her fantasies would come true.
Was it smart? No, it was heart-breaking. Every time she tried to get closer to him, he pushed her away. Rudely at that.
Could he be nicer about it? Yes. He didn't have to hurt her more than she has been in the past. Even if she bounces back in the end.
Then, there were times that Gray thoroughly confused her. Times when even though he didn't love her back, he acted like he did. For example, when Lyon would flirt with Juvia. Gray, at times like those, even though he made excuses, would act… jealous. At least, that's what Juvia hoped it was. Although, it did occur to her that it could be his long-lived rivalry with his ex-fellow student of Ur. She, of course, ignored that thought entirely.
Why does she do this to herself? Why does she torture herself with someone she may have absolutely no chance with? Simple.
Juvia loves Gray.
No matter how many times she seems crazy. No matter how cliché it seems that she fell for him at first sight. It's true.
She could've moved on long ago, but for her to have tried so many times, to have bounced back after being turned down so many times, there's no possible way it couldn't be love. Especially after fighting for that love in a number of life-endangering battles.
And now, after feeling like she should give up for the millionth time, (a side she's never going to show to anyone) she meets the same resolve that she comes up with every time:
'Juvia loves Gray-sama, why should she give up?'
