Zack looked at the beach. In the sand laid some mines, a little girl has sittinng right on that sand. One of his companions was checking if there were those damned bombs to achieve her, but he did not care and went to her.

He sat down next to the child, looking at her. She looked naive and innocent. Once he was the same, but he didn't feel like that anymore.

He had lost his hopes.

Zack began to talk to her, to distract her, he called Cody, while his heart was tight in a stronger grip. He didn't even remember how long he was there, defuse mines, time seemed to slow flow, almost evil, as it knew what it hurt to work in the place where he had lost the person who was most dear, like for exaggerate his punishment.

His punishment ... For what had been punished? He had little more than nine years old when the war broke out. What had he done, to find himself in that situation, without his brother? What had done Cody?

They had entered the army, they had to do, it was the best thing. But apparently it was all wrong. And at that moment he was there, at defuse mines, at save a little girl. A little girl who was part of a people who hated him, just because he was german.

He passed the child to his companion who had joined them, he walked to the other, then turning to look at him. Zack was standing still, as in trans.

He had few certainties at the time.

He hated his grandfather for having decided to move to Germany, when his father was still small, for some reason.

He hated being treated that way by the Danes.

He hated to live without his other half.

Zack did the most sensible thing that he look at that time. He turned away from his companions and closed his eyes, he took a step toward death. He took a step toward Cody. He stepped into his memory.

Two children, Zack and Cody, were running in the backyard, laughing carefree.

Two steps.

The twins had started the elementary school and they stood on their own in a corner, playing.

Three steps.

Cody was sitting on the floor, reading a book, Zack round about making its tongue.

Four steps.

Zack dribbled under the admiring eyes of his brother.

Five steps.

His father was preparing to go to war, he gave a kiss to the wife in tears and ruffled the hair of children, confused, then reached the men who would go with him in that war.

Six steps.

He and Cody were sharing a cookie to celebrate their twelfth birthday.

Seven steps.

Zack looked at his brother with the uniform of the military. It seemed to be reflected.

Eight steps.

They were sitting in a cold cell, Cody shook his hand burying his face in his shoulder, trying not to cry, Zack simply hugged him and looked straight ahead of him.

Nine steps.

Cody defused proud of a mine, there was an explosion. Despite Zack research, he didn't find him. He tried to free himself from the iron grip of his comrades, friends.

Ten steps.

The pain came over him totally being followed by peace.
