Author's Note: No, I don't own any characters from Super Mario or anything I talk about. This story takes place after the events of Paper Mario.

After Peach was taken back by Paper Mario, night fell. Bowser looked up into the sky and saw a star. Being powerless once more, he had some hope to regain something. He made sure he was alone and began his prayer.

Hello again, Star Spirits. No, I cannot kidnap you again. I have no power – at the moment. Still, I am not entirely stupid. I don't need you all to declare war on me for taking your power. You shouldn't be too angry at me. It was your entire fault, really. Why wouldn't you grant me a wish? If you had, maybe so much could have been avoided on your part. Maybe I would not be in an endless game of 'Capture the Princess' with Mario.

Mario is so annoying, isn't he? Why do you help him? He can do fine himself. I mean, look at him. He has an accent, a little red cap, and a bushy mustache. Who wouldn't love him? Wait – I can answer that question. I won't love him. I won't even like him. I hate him with all of my heart.

Yes, I do have a heart, though you believe I don't. I just don't use it often for the substance you call 'love.' You have been blind to those moments you would call "good" and "caring." I mean, if I hadn't taken in Kammy Koopa, who would have? She just has to do what I wish and I give her what she wants. Is it my fault that she believes everything she hears?

If that is not love, let me remind you of Clawdia. She was my wife for some time, and a true love of mine. Note that I say a true love. Princess Peach is another love of mine.

Dear stars, why does Peach despise me so? I love her so. Do you not believe me? Have I not proved to you that I love her? I care for her enough to deal with your beloved Mario. Every time I take Peach, I hope that maybe you will leave Mario to try something on his own for once. Who'd listen to Bowser? Not you, apparently.

If not for my sake, think of Clawdia. I'm sure she would not want to see me unhappy. Ask her – I'm sure you took that good woman up to the stars where she deserves to be. She would not want me to be lonely. I mourned for her, but now she would want me to live.

Do I not have a better cause than that Mario? He just goes around saving people because he has nothing better to do. Why do you feel the need to pick on me? Is it impossible for you to just for once, one time only, let those who are scorned by the general public have their way? By your reactions, I guess it isn't.

Maybe you'll listen to me now. Maybe you'll let me have my one wish, O Star Spirits. I love Peach and I wish she would learn to care. Ah, now I hear you laugh. Why should you let me have her? Are the reasons I have given not good enough? Would logic convince you?

You see, if Princess Peach loved me and I kidnapped her, Mario would not have to save her. She would be happy with me. You could save all of your power for a worthier cause then that bag of sewage dump. Could I not be loved for myself? Could I?

Bowser heard footsteps approaching. Turning away, he walked back into the darkness of his castle, forsaking the starlight. No stars shined for him, and no star would ever shine for him if the stars had their way. As the saying goes, evil never wins.

Author's Note: I have hope that Bowser's not the bumbling idiot we see him to be in video games. Therefore, this fiction was written. What do you think? Oh, and I know everything may seem a little out of order, but Bowser is really a scatterbrain. Keep in mind that scatterbrains don't have to be stupid.
