The night was chilly. A fine mist hung in the air, dancing with the breeze. She could feel the moisture on her face, her pale green eyes staring blankly at the sky while her other senses took in everything they possibly could. She felt a boy's hand grab ahold of hers, caressing her green charm bracelet. His grey eyes were wide and he couldn't stop smiling. He'd been waiting for months to ask her to the fair.

"Hey, want to go on the ferris wheel?" the boy asked, pulling her in that direction. The normally bold girl looked a little hesitant.

"That's the wheel that goes really high, right? What if I fall?"

He squeezed her hand tighter. "Don't worry, I won't let you."

She smiled. "Thanks, Aang."

As ferris wheel started, both teenagers were grateful to sit down after waiting in a line of about a hundred people. Aang noticed that Toph still looked a little afraid when it started, but by the time they reached the top she was smiling.

"It's a lot colder up here. It's such a cool feeling—being up high like this."

He smiled. "So you're not scared anymore?"

The girl looked taken aback. "Scared? What are you talking about? I was never scared!"

The wind shifted the seat. She gasped and held his hand tighter. He smiled.

"Not scared, huh?" he laughed. Her face grew cherry red but then she smiled, too.

Her hand stroked the metal bench they were sitting on as they began to descend. She looked sad at the fact that her new favorite ride was ending.

As the two got off of the ferris wheel, Aang smiled and pulled Toph off towards the snack stands. He noticed her nose wrinkled as they passed the fried food stand.

"I still can't believe people eat those things. It's just bread fried in oil," she stated, trying to sound passive.

Aang smirked. "You want to try one, don't you?"

"Of course!"

Toph took a bite of the deep-fried doughnut and made a face, but Aang could tell she was trying to hide the fact that she really liked it. He proved this fact when he tried to grab the piece of fried dough and she pushed him away, giggling.

"Back off, Twinkle Toes. It's mine."

Smiling, he grabbed her wrist and dragged her over to another ride, the tilt-o-whirl. It was definitely the prettiest one, with the swirling lights and children laughing from within it.

Toph looked annoyed. "Okay, you seriously need to stop doing that-" She was interrupted by the feeling of his lips on her cheek, if only for a split second.

Aang's face turned cherry red when Toph cut off and didn't say anything. "I'm sorry," he whispered.

She punched him in the arm. "Don't be sorry. I… liked it."
