Reading a Story

"Mama, me want to read a story." Johnna told her.

"You want to read me a story?" Jackie asked.

"No, to the babies." Johnna explained.

"Oh, you want to read to the babies?" Jackie said.

"Yeah."

"Ok, they will love that, come on." Jackie told her as she patted right next to her, indicating she wanted Johnna to come sit down.

"Dem wake?" Johnna asked as she scampered onto the couch.

"Yes, they are awake." Jackie assured her.

Jackie then felt a kick.

At least one of them is actually awake. Jackie thought to herself.

Johnna pointed to each animal on every page patiently explaining to the babies what each animal was and what sound they made.

"Babies, are you listening to me?" The little girl asked as she pressed her mouth against Jackie's stomach to make sure they could hear her.

Jackie struggled to keep from laughing.

"The End." Johnna said when she had come to the end of the book.

"Did they like the story mama?" She asked.

"They loved it sweetheart." Jackie assured her.

Johnna smiled happily.

"Mama, me want the babies to come out."

"I know kiddo, I do to, but they have to grow some more before they can come out." Jackie told her with a smile.

"Eat an apple mama, that will make them big." Johnna told her innocently.

"Well apples help you grow big and strong but they don't help babies grow big and strong, but how about I go cut some apples and that's what we can all have for a snack?"

"Ok." The little girl replied happily.

"Ok." Jackie told her with a smile.

Just as soon as I can get up off of the couch. Jackie thought to herself.

With the help of the armrest she pushed herself upright.

"Ok kiddo, I'm going to go potty and then I'll get us some snacks." Jackie said.

"You go potty all the time mama." Johnna told her, sounding slightly annoyed.

Jackie laughed.

"I know I do." She said as she gently ruffled the little girl's hair.

Jackie went to the bathroom and then cut the apples for the kid's snack and even though Jackie ate a few slices herself the babies still were not big enough to come out.
