Not Alone

During the war of the monster's fall, several things happened – many heroes emerged, traitors unveiled themselves, and there was much, much death. One of the greatest heroes to be brought to light was the Water Dragon King, for the deeds of both sealing away the dark lord Shabranigdo, and the sealing of the demon dragon king Garv into a human form.

After the war, Shabranigdo remained sealed away, to be reborn yet hidden within many humans as they lived out their lives – the joining was a both a blessing and a curse on the humans that had taken on the Dark Lord's energy. Those humans would, however, live and die without ever realizing the source of their power.

In the case of the other to be sealed away, however, the mind of the Mazoku remained very well aware of whom he was – and was able to consciously act upon it. Even if he could no longer take on his true form, he remained powerful. He would be born human time and time again, gaining great power at a young age, just to die and be reborn again – so short was a human's lifespan.

Every time he was reborn, he would reassume his former power, and continue to act out his agenda – but the part of him that had become human did have its effects, and he soon began to favor a slightly different end to his 'quest' of existence. Not much difference, but the human side of him was enough to turn him against his fellow Mazoku, and them against him. So at every rebirth they would hunt him, and often succeed in bringing him to his end, only to have him be reborn another time.

As was the case when Phibrizzo finally caught him, over a thousand years after the start of the time he was human. Killed and his soul sealed into crystal, he was suspended in time until Phibrizzo's death a short time after. With Phibrizzo, and his power, gone, Garv was free to be reborn again. Just as he had been every time before.

*

It had been an anxious day for the young dragon, but she new that her anxiety was to come to an end.

Being careful to put a 'closed' sing in plain view in the shop window, she locked the door after her and started down the road with purposeful strides to where she could meet her 'son' on his way home from school.

Funny, she never really thought about the fact that she would be sending him to school, watching him grow up just as a normal human child would when she had adopted the dragon egg six years ago. Well, some things just take you by surprise.

Ahead of her on the road, she saw Val come around a corner running, eager to get home, no doubt. He had been very anxious in the morning. What she didn't expect was the other boy that followed Val, running almost as swiftly as the young dragon, trailing only a bit behind.

They didn't seem to be in any conflict, both smiling widely as they ran up to her – so she wasn't that worried. It was the look of the other child that spooked her. While she had never seen him before, he had an aura of power around him much the same as Val did – stating that by no means was he a normal child. His hair could almost be called short, but it wasn't quite at that level, and crimson red in color. When the children got closer she noted that his eyes were a shade of icy blue that didn't suit a child's face at all. Very solid in frame for a child, he made Val look tiny by comparison, though to look at the two of them they seemed the same age.

"Momma!"

She crouched down to be at eye level with Val as he ran up to her, "How was your first day at school?"

Val stopped in front of her, and the other child stood next to him. "I had fun at school Momma! Can my friend stay for supper?"

End (to be continued? eventually...)
