The first thing Ruby wanted to do was lay down on her couch and never move again. Shutting the door behind her, she made a beeline for the faded, old cushions that welcomed her far too often. At this point her bed might as well not exist. With a soft 'pomf!' she landed and tried to keep herself from screaming into the pillows.
It was supposed to be a simple day: work while keeping an eye on the news to make sure nothing big was going to go down. There was even a three-day weekend coming up so she had hoped at least one super villain would choose to not take over the city today! Of course it wouldn't happen, but Ruby liked to hope for a time without explosions.
With the topic of explosions fresh on her mind, Ruby pulled the pillow over her head to try and cool her blush. Her powers still harbored on her emotional state and unfortunately she was not a stable person. Fire is a cool enough power for a superhero until you realize how much it can spread. She couldn't believe the mess that was caused today, by the villain and herself.
Ruby's turmoil and pillow made it hard to hear her door open and shut so naturally she jumped when a cold hand was placed on her shoulder.
A single blue eye gazed sympathetically at her as Sapphire sat down next to Ruby.
"Ruby, everything will be alright." Her soft voice made the pyromancer sigh and relax.
"But you've seen what happened Sapph! I couldn't control it again..." At this point Ruby didn't know if she was talking about the fire or her temper. Knowing this, Sapphire took her hand.
"You were focused on making sure he didn't hurt anyone. It was by coincidence the wind picked up then."
"Yeah… I guess." Ruby's mumbled answer gained a slight frown from Sapphire, who kissed her cheek.
"You saved people, Ruby. You aren't the bad guy," she turned Ruby's head so that she could see the small, yet comforting smile, "And if anyone says otherwise, I'd like to see them try controlling an eternal flame." The mention of her nickname made Ruby laugh and blush slightly.
"You know there's only one who can do that~" Ruby kissed the hand she was holding as Sapphire used her other hand to tap her chin.
"And who would that be?"
"Sapph~" Ruby huffed and poked her side, getting a giggle. "Don't be so cold~"
The moment she said that, Sapphire looked away, smile gone, and tried to stand up.
"I'm leaving you," her monotone wavered slightly, making Ruby grin wider.
"Chill! It's just a joke. Please don't give me the cold shoulder. You're so cool; I don't want you to snow away! It's ice to see you!" The more she continued, the more Sapphire shook.
"S-stop it, you!" Sapphire lightly pushed Ruby away while trying to hide her smile. Ruby took it as a good sign and pulled her closer before whispering,
"Not until you fall into my Ruby trap~"
Sapphire laughed so hard Ruby had to hug her to make sure she didn't fall off of the couch.
"T-t-that was s-so bad! You a-are TERRIBLE with p-puns!" She hugged Ruby as they both tried to settle down. Ruby could only chuckle and kiss Sapphire's head.
"Yeah, I was really stretching for them..."
They both took a moment to relax, Sapphire rubbed Ruby's back while the pyromancer ran her fingers through Sapphire's light blue hair.
Ruby loved this woman with all of her heart. No matter how bad she felt or how angry she was, Sapphire always tried to get through to her and cool her down.
As Ruby was about to thank her for it, Sapphire spoke up again.
"Well, at least you're smoking hot." The phrase made Ruby blush at the abruptness.
"E-er, I mean, if you think so, Sapph?"
Sapphire gave a soft laugh and turned to her with a grin that matched the one Ruby had on earlier.
"Of course I think so~ After all," she placed a hand on Ruby's cheek. "You set my heart aflame~"
It took Ruby a moment longer to realize what was happening. The moment she did, Sapphire's grin grew.
"Don't."
"Don't pretend to be a Newby~ You knew this was going to ignite~"
"Sapph!"
"If you couldn't take the heat, you shouldn't have started this 'phire~"
