Pairing: Hermione/George, Hermione/Fred
Rating: NC17
Summary: Hermione was always Fred's, in secret. When Fred dies, Hermione is lost, that is until she finds Fred's twin, George. A long friendship starts, healing their hearts. Fred decides to take matters in his own hands and pushes them together. Romance ensues, but what happens when Fred gets another chance at life? Will Hermione choose her one true love, or the twin who has helped her through everything? And what if the wrong decision can ruin everything?
Hermione sat there at Fred's funeral, listening to the kind words that were being said by George. George was repeating the words he had practiced a million times, and trying to keep his composure. He was on the verge of breaking down. Suddenly Hermione felt guilty. She and Fred were hiding something. She thought back to the last time she had seen Fred.
Fred and Hermione lay on his bed at Grimwald Place. She was leaning on his chest, tracing circle son his stomach. Hermione was thinking a million things at once.
"What do you see in me Fred?" she asked.
"I see a beautiful, brave, smart, and cunning young witch, whom I love with all my heart," he answered as if it were the most obvious thing in the world
Hermione looked up into his eyes, tears brimming her eyes. She closed them lightly, letting the tears spill.
"Don't cry, love," Fred said gently, wiping the tears from her cheeks.
"What if we don't get to see each other again, Fred? We are days away from the final battle with Voldemort. What if one of us dies?"
"Nothing's going to happen, love. We are going to live. We are going to let out our secret, then I'm going to marry you, and we are going to have the most beautiful kids ever. I promise."
"You can't possibly-" Hermione was cut off by Fred gently kissing her lips.
"I promise, Hermione."
For the rest of the night, they sat like that, just holding each other. Neither knew that the promise was going to be broken.
Hermione blinked away tears. She wouldn't allow herself to cry, but she couldn't help thinking about the last words he said to her.
An empty promise. A promise they couldn't be sure about. A broken promise with all the meaning in the world.
