Sora has never been particularly bothered about the way she looks. She keeps her hair short because it's low maintenance and convenient. She plays football not to stay fit but because it's something she really enjoys doing. Besides, no one's attractive when a game has just finished and they're panting, red in the face with sweat streaming from their brow. She has been called a tomboy a lot in the past but she doesn't mind because she knows it's true. Before now, there's never been anybody to impress.

Koushiro shares this sentiment. The main companions in his life have always been of the programmed, electrically-powered variety, and thus he has never seen a reason to really be bothered about his appearance. To this day he gets teased for looking like a nerd and wearing the wrong trainers, but what does he care? His computers are impartial towards what he looks like, and that's all that has ever mattered. He's always been under the impression that it's all that would ever matter in the future too, but it seems he was mistaken.

Because he's seen her, and he feels the unfamiliar urge to run a comb through his hair.

She is equally surprised to find herself tilting her head forwards so that her short hair hides the features which have never felt the effect of make up.

The moment is uncertain and neither boy nor girl knows what to do next. So they just keep walking, and a brief meeting of nervous eyes is all that comes to pass as they end up going their separate ways. Each is hoping inside that perhaps one day they'll encounter each other again, only next time they'll look ready. They'll be ready.
