Cadvan arrived at Pellinor, dreading the Midwinter day. He lie down, falling asleep instantly.

He was a wolf, running under the moonlight. His paw hurt, but he paid no mind to the pain. He felt free, and relished the freezing wind running through his fur, making it ruffle.

Cadvan instantly woke, shaken but not knowing the significance of his dream. He spent awhile trying to unravel the strange feeling that arose in him, but could reach no conclusion. He killed a rabbit to make a stew.

Maerad arrived at Pellinor. She looked at the wreckage with great remorse that she could not remember what it looked like when she lived there. She came to a clearing and stopped. She smelt a fire, and she moved cautiously forward to see a man. She moved closer, realizing as she stopped who it was . At first, she thought it was a trick of the light, but then saw him move. It couldn't be. Impossible. But it was. It was Cadvan. She started running towards him, forgetting that she was a wolf, forgetting that he would not recognize her.

Cadvan heard a strange sound, almost a panting, and looks around. Suddenly out of the whirling snow a wolf comes, running straight for him. At the moment he was too surprised to react at all, but after a moment he jumped up and drew his sword.

Maerad stopped, puzzled for a moment, then felt like laughing. She was still in wolf form. She stopped, then concentrated on going back to human.

Cadvan was confused. What is this wolf doing? He couldn't figure it out.

Maerad felt that single second of pure agony. She then stood before him, still unbelieving that it really was him. She started to run to him, nearly knocking him down when she collided with him, hugging him fiercely. " I thought you were killed in the landslide," she said.

Cadvan could only laugh. "I thought that I would never see you again," he said, " I was worried." He fell silent then, and the silence between them grew. Then Cadvan asked " How could you have been a wolf?" Then more to himself, "I guess that would explain my dream."

"What dream," asked Maerad.

"Soon after I arrived here, I dreamt that I was a wolf," he explained. "I had no idea to what it had meant."

Maerad smiled. "I guess that we were destined to stop the Nameless One together, but I'm just glad that we are together," she said.

They ate their meal then went to bed, each thinking their own thoughts.
