Leaving Behind The Restless Nights
Pitter. Patter.
The sound of the rain thrashing the windshield was like the sound of the tears free-flowing down her soft cheeks. She gazed at the rear view window and caught sight of everything she was leaving behind; everything that she kept at and ventured her heart out, being left behind.
Four months ago, the sun shone for the two like it shone for the day. They had control of the wheel in the relationship and each thing went the way they planned. Not one of them assumed anything would go out of their hands. Everything was simple and played out like a fairytale where the prince encounters the princess.
In came the cold winter days when conditions started to loose control and roll downhill. The distance between them became a great difficulty to deal with and hopeless arguments came along. People attempted to detach them & obstacles on the road were getting harder to go through. No matter how much effort and love they put in, the line they walk on kept getting thinner & they kept getting weaker. Soon enough, he stopped trying and she stopped believing.
Another tear formed from her eyes. If letting go was right, then why did her heart gain so much regret and fill up with so much pain?
SCREECH!
Adrianna stepped on the breaks roughly, shaking away her little daze. A person stood in front of her car, wearing only a t-shirt and jeans in the pouring weather. She scrolled down her window.
"How could you leave so easily?" asked a pain-filled, quivering voice.
His usual shining eyes were bloodshot and full of hurt and frustration. Tears were streaming down his face like a never-ending river. Adrianna's heart sank.
She slowly took a step out of her car, her heart pounding out of her chest.
"Drew, I had no other choice! You know that no matter what we do to try to save this fallout, it wouldn't work!" cried Adrianna, a new set of tears dripped down her face.
Drew shook his head in denial.
"You know darn well that we stopped trying! If you give me one more chance, I promise I will try twice as hard to keep us together. I know we can Adrie."
Adrianna shook her head, and kneeled to the wet pavement below her, her knees too weak to support all her weight.
"We made a promise to be together and spend the rest of our lives together. You promised me Adrianna Marino!" yelled Drew, as anger started boiling inside his body.
Adrianna gave all the effort she had left to stand up. She made her way slowly towards him until she was only a few inches away.
"Drew, I love you forever and always. No matter what happens to us, you will always be someone special in my heart. We gave it all we got and it proved that we were never meant to be. You'll find someone that you love and loves you just as much. I know you will because I believe in you. Don't let this be the end 'cause you should know that this is only the beginning."
With that, Adrianna kissed him on the cheek gently and let go, not turning back once. Each word she managed to choke out was true; she truly meant every word she said to him. Adrianna got in her car, and drove away.
It had been five years since that very day, Adrianna and Drew did not really keep in contact but she found a gold envelope with an invitation inside her mailbox the other day. She smiled to herself.
After all those restless nights, he finally found the one he had been looking for all along.
