On Death and Dying
"The ultimate lesson all of us have to learn is unconditional love, which includes not only others but ourselves as well" - Elisabeth Kübler-Ross

Moving to Stage Two
"The most beautiful people I've known are those who have known trials, have known struggles, have known loss, and have found their way out of the depths" - Elisabeth Kübler-Ross
"I'm not all right... But neither are you."
Dean stood frozen, unable to answer, as Sam stalked off. He felt wound so tight that even the slightest movement would set him off, spinning out of control. He couldn't afford to fall apart. Everything was on him.
How could you do this to me, Dad?
Despite what Sam obviously thought, Dean wasn't stupid. He knew their dad had made a deal.
What was the point?
Those final whispered words were a knife through his heart; a mortal wound.
I should've been the one to die; now you've only delayed the inevitable.

Nothing to Bargain
"Everything in this life has a purpose, there are no mistakes, no coincidences" - Elisabeth Kübler-Ross
Dean hung his head in shame at the way he'd spoken to Bobby. They'd always been close; he didn't deserve to be Dean's punch bag.
I always let down the people I love. Dad, S-sammy, now Bobby.
He knew it wouldn't be held against him. That's just what families do.
What am I supposed to do? It was a lie. He knew.
He felt drained and hollowed out. Sammy, I'd give anything to bring you back.
Anything. The word reverberated through his mind.
It's a poor excuse for a soul, but let's see if it's enough to close a deal.

A/N: Dean dies a happy man. Set near the end of 3.16 No Rest for the Wicked. Dean's PoV.
Moving On
"Should you shield the canyons from the windstorms you would never see the true beauty of their carvings" - Elisabeth Kübler-Ross
Despite the excruciating pain, Dean was more terrified by the sight of his brother held by demonic power, forced to watch hellhounds tear him apart.
Against all odds, Lilith's power didn't work against Sam. Dean gave a silent cheer as a lifeless Ruby slumped beside him and the filthy, black smoke that was Lilith fled for its life.
The time for tears was well and truly over. Sam will be okay. His job was done, or as much as he could manage.
The world disappeared to black.
There was a merciful moment of peace before the agony of Hell began.
