EP? - Dream of the Golden Witch
PROLOGUE
The red roses in the Ushiromiya mansion's garden were blooming like mad. The golden butterflies flew around wildly, radiating their golden glow in the dusk. Under the garden's arbor, the millenial witch was enjoying a cup of tea as she waited. She waited to have a promise made to her fulfilled.
A gramophone played an old melody on the table. She hummed silently to it as she took a sip of her warm tea. Then something caught her attention in the garden – a man wearing white suit had appeared in the middle of the roses. He bowed to the witch and started slowly to walk towards her.
The witch stood up. She curtseyed to him in a polite, elegant manner. They started to approach each other. When they were only mere steps away from each other, the man offered his hand to the witch, asking for a dance. Smiling whimsically, the witch took his hand, and they started to spin around the garden.
Breath of wind passed through the garden, scattering red rose petals and glittering gold all around. The song they danced to was nearing its' climax. Like in a movie, the man gently pulled the witch closer to him, and slightly bent her body towards the ground at the end of the dance. She closed her eyes, feeling warm inside. This is it – the promise that was made long time ago was about to get fulfilled. He brought his lips near the witch's ear, and whispered gently;
"Nobody died during the second twilight."
Her eyes widened open in shock as she heard those words. Soon, they turned into shimmering blue wedge, and it pierced its way through her loin. Letting out a small grunt of pain, the world around them broke like a piece of glass, and the witch staggered backwards in the witches' smoking room. Blood started to seep through her black silk dress, staining it.
"How's that, Beatrice?"
The witch grimaced pain – the blue wedge which was denying her existance felt like a white-hot iron blade in her flesh. However, when their eyes met, she cackled.
"Kh... Khihi... Kuhihiyahiyahiyahiyaha! What a pleasant move, Ushiromiya Battler! However...!"
There was a blinding red flash, and the blue wedge which was piercing her was shattered like glass.
"Both victims of the second twilight are certainly dead!"
Beatrice's wound slowly started to disappear, and her pain eased. She gained her composure and stood in front of Battler – like a queen stands right in front of a pawn on chessboard.
"I must confess, you've really improved during our little game. You're far less incompetent than what you used to be" she cackled.
Battler grinned daringly.
"Going to give up already?"
Beatrice burst into laughter, like she had heard the best joke of her life.
"Don't make me laugh, human! It's thousand years too early for you to be able to deny me!"
"We'll see about that", Battler said. "Bring it on. I'm ready for your next game!"
The witch grinned. After snapping her fingers, a chessboard with 19 pieces appeared in the air in between them.
"This time, you'll submit to me. You'll be on your knees kissing my shoes...!"
"Witches and magic do not exist! I won't allow them to exist!"
"Kyahahaha! Then, come, Ushiromiya Battler!"
It's 4th of October, 1986, once again...
