Jackson Avery couldn't sleep. It wasn't that he wasn't tried; it was more that he was afraid that if he went to sleep than he would wake up and the last few months would have been nothing but a dream. He really didn't want that. He glanced at the red head lying beside him deep in slumber, and he couldn't help but think that this was so much better than any other life he could have thought for himself.

He remembers telling another girl not too long ago (although considering all that had happened since than it really was a lifetime) that no person has one soul mate. The crazy thing is that when that line was spoken he had in fact already met his soul mate. He just hadn't had the chance to notice it yet. Not that he didn't notice her; he did. He had always thought she was beautiful her neurotic, rambling way, even when they were interns.

When he thinks back on it, it really was there all along. He had always been strangely protective of her. Always minded when she went on dates even if he didn't say it. Teased her about her crush on McDreamy because he really didn't understand why she was the one girl who didn't seem to swoon at the look of Jackson Avery. Trusted her quickly. Calmed her down easily. And she did the same for him. It was always there. He was just never going to act on it. But thank god that she did.

He wishes he could go back. Tell that version of himself leaning on the car talking to the other girl that the road he was trying to go down was a dead end and the right one was standing right in front of him. (Okay, Okay it was slightly to the left). He could have been so much happier for so much longer. They could have avoided all the drama and pain of the last year. As much as people say his eyes are his best feature, sometimes they have the flaw of not seeing what's right in front of him.

But then she shifts in her sleep, his eyes close in on the ring around her finger and he regrets nothing. (Well, maybe the humiliating several people to finally get to her). Because no matter what he said a lifetime ago, he knows that back then he really didn't know what it meant to have a soul mate, because he hadn't realized his yet. But she was his now. She was his one. Life with her was the dream, so he didn't really need to sleep did he?

Hello everyone! so this is just a one shot came up with after the episode last night, since Jackson called April "the one" and he had previously said he didn't believe in them. Thought it was interestng. On a side note i would just like to say i'm starting to really like Steph. I think she reacted like an strong women, and its nice to see a female character not completely break down over a guy. I like her alot, just not with Jackson. More oneshots will be coming soon!
