Oneshot!

Demeters▓ lover.

⌠That stupid conniving worthless pollicle of a brother!■ I thought bitterly. ⌠How can he not care? Or is it possible to be so cold?

With that thought I sat down on a paint can and wept bitterly into my hands.

Everybody had been searching for days and still no one had found her. My dearest, my love, my Demeter was kitnapped in plain sight in the middle of the junkyard and I had been powerless to stop Macavity from doing it. And it made me sick to think about what he was doing to her now.

Just then a hand gently touched my shoulder.

⌠Hey, Munk?■ a soft voice said.

⌠What is it, Alonzo? I asked in a deep, obviously strained voice.

⌠Well┘ Skimble told me he found some paw prints leading away from┘■

Getting up I snapped, ⌠Paw prints, paw prints, paw prints. We have been finding paw prints for days now.■ I said a little harsher than I intended.

Alonzo took a small step back, apparently caught off guard, but quickly recovered.

⌠You listen to me, Munkustrap.■ he said while thumping me in the chest with a large paw. ⌠I know you have been taking this whole situation full force. But you shouldn▓t take it out on us. And you shouldn▓t think that you are the only one who actually cares for the wellbeing of this tribe.■ finally to add emphasis on his last statement he grabbed me by the skin of my neck and shoved me back on the seat. ⌠And last of all,■ he crouched eyelevel to me. ⌠Don▓t think that no one else cares about Demeter like you do.■

With that he stood and walked away, leaving me to dwell on my thoughts.

⌠He has never spoken a harsh word to me in all the years we have been friends,■ I thought, ⌠Why should he start now.■

⌠What▓s his problem?■ a voice said from behind me.

Turning I saw the one and only Rum Tum Tugger, and the sight sent two words through my mind. ⌠Oh no■

⌠Well, if this ain▓t a sight.■ I remarked dryly. ⌠The Rum Tum Tugger without his squealing fan club.■

⌠Hardy har.■ he replied. ⌠But seriously, what▓s wrong with Alonzo?■

⌠What▓s wrong with everybody in the tribe except you?■ I countered shortly.

⌠Dem?■

⌠Very good. Now, will you leave me alone? I need to think.■

⌠All right, but it▓s a dangerous occupation.■ He said before he left.

⌠Finally, some time to myself.■ I thought selfishly. ⌠I know I shouldn▓t be so harsh with everybody, but without ▒her▓ I feel lost, unled, and, dare I say it, vulnerable.■ ⌠Here I am, the ▒fearless▓ protector of the tribe, And I can▓t even keep my temper in line.■ ⌠I am letting them all down.■

At this thought I looked at the sky, being blurred by tears, and with one breath said, ⌠I will never rest until she is found.■ But the next breath was racked with sobs.
