Title: Lighting Equipment
Drabble: #65
TK's prompt: Pumpkin
Randomly selected pairing: Hikori
Disclaimer: I don't own Digimon.
Notes: Every time I hear the word 'pumpkin' I think of that episode of 'The Vicar of Dibley', where Geraldine dressed up as a pumpkin. Good times. I actually can't wait for Halloween now. One more pairing to go! Can anyone tell me what it is?

Holidays are something Hikari has always looked forward to; Christmas, birthdays, Easter, everything, but her favourite is Halloween. She just loves the atmosphere at that time of year. Children dress up and go trick-or-treating, teenagers throw parties which often also involve dressing up, and adults use it as an excuse to get together and have a few drinks and a laugh. It's a generally cheerful event, despite its spooky theme, when everyone tries to enjoy themselves and it makes Hikari happy to see people having so much fun together.

Every year at Halloween, one of the Digidestined throws a party for the rest of them. It has become quite a tradition, and this year it's Iori's turn which also makes it Hikari's turn since the two of them live together now. It was easy to sort out who would do what; Iori loves to cook so he offered to make the food, and Hikari loves to be creative so she offered to make decorations and such. And that's how they've been spending most of their day.

Hikari is currently working on carving out pumpkin lanterns at the kitchen table; she's always thought they looked amazing, even if she's never been very good at making them. So far she's managed to make one rather dodgy looking lantern in the space of nearly an hour, and she's already frustrated. Scooping out the insides of the pumpkins has made her hands smell, and she's having difficulty cutting out shapes with straight edges. This pumpkin's eyes are supposed to be triangles, but they're looking more like pentagons at the moment.

Iori glances over as he cuts dough into cookie shapes to check her progress, and smiles sympathetically. She's oblivious to the look, concentrating intently on the task at hand; her eyes are so focused on the pumpkin that they almost look crossed, and the tip of her tongue is sticking out of the edge of her mouth. Her eyebrows furrow as she tries desperately to carve a second eye in the same shape, and Iori eyes the knife that she's using warily. He begins to get images of the knife slipping and slicing one of her fingers off…

And before she can make another move he grabs the knife from her, demanding that they switch jobs. She glances at the bits of pumpkin underneath her fingernails, and is only too happy to agree.
