Past: When she was born, Jane's parents were often gone, out exploring and doing research. Because of their constant absence, she became independent. So much that when her father asked if she would be okay alone for a week while he and her mother went to sea, it was fine with her. However, the outcome was not what she had expected; becoming gravely ill after their return her mother soon passed. Attending the funeral hosted for her, her father who was weighted with guilt suggested that Jane attend a boarding school where she would dorm and grow up.
Fast forward a few years, Jane was friendless and considered weird. She was lonely, for her father rarely visiting and when he did, he left rather quickly. Her days were filled with her out in the garden sketching the roses and roaming about the forest in search for critters and birds yet in her sketchbook. Sneaking out was not an option, not with people looking after her so closely. Becoming tired with the troubles that arose from being different Jane began to merge with the schools expectations. Waking up early in the morning, attending classes, appearing at tea parties, wearing the uniform, she striped herself of what made her an individual.
Another few years passed though, and things began to change once more. Finding a boy who had snuck in on campus, she chose not to tell on him after he begged her not to but as a product, he appeared frequently. They argued and laughed together, their friendship strengthening and any sense of ever being alone fading. One night he suggested that she went out with him to the nearby city and in a heat of the moment, and curiosity, Jane agreed. Together they sneaked out and she found out that there were people who could accept her for who she truly was. Her new knowledge of the world behind the school walls resulted in their night adventure to become a usual occurrence for the two and quickly she became more and more rebellious.
When she was ever found leaving, which was natural in a school with eyes everywhere, she was rewards with a stay in isolation after a nice whipping. At sixteen, she had grown accustomed to the leather striking her back and wood against her fingers. Once she was seventeen, she packed her things and with the assistance of her now best friend, left the school. She lived with him, staying in his parent's guest room for months before finally going to her house to tell her father of her decisions, she would not be returning to the dungeon. They disagreed but by nightfall on her second visit, he had learned to forgive himself and accepted Jane's return. They agreed she would not go back to the boarding school and unlike before he made sure to include her in everything he did.
On the summer of that year, she accompanied him to explore the African jungles. There they found a man who spoke a wild language and went by the name Tarzan. Before returning home, they offered to take him with them but he declined. When they did return, Jane went back to sketching and spending time with her best friend and other acquaintances she had made through him.
