Bones had been dating Andrew for nearly three months now, she felt content with the relationship. Booth, on the other hand, dated several women, none of them lasting past the second date. Bones suspected he had not gotten over her yet. She was dating someone else and while she believed it might be difficult for him to accept, he would eventually find someone else. They still worked together, as Bones requested, and she thought they were working well together. There were times, though, that she would catch something in his eyes, a look of deep longing for something. He would have a sad smile, but once Bones would see the look he would perk right back up. She never said anything about her observations, she feared what he would say. One day though, she caught him doing it again and she finally asked him.
"Why do you keep looking at me funny?" she asked, when she spotted the look as she had turned her head away from her computer.
"What look? I have no look." Booth denied.
"Your pupils are dilated and your tear ducts are close to lacrimation." Bones stated.
"Say-what-ation?"
"Lacrimation. It means your tear ducts are secreting tears."
"I am not about to cry, if that's what you're implying." Booth said, getting defensive.
"I am not implying anything. I am clearly just stating the facts. So why are you giving me that look all the time?"
"I don't know what you mean."
