Azula barely spoke, let alone make the smallest noises. When meals were served, the girl ate slowly and silently. Her never ending silence scared the other patients and they never came near her. The bags under her golden eyes were heavy and her long black hair flowed down her back. Her only visitors were Zuko, Ty Lee and Mai and though she wouldn't say it out loud, she was kind of glad that they came.
The princess was bound by a straitjacket and wheeled around in a wheelchair by the nurses. In her cell, it was quiet and dark, just the way she wanted. She had become to hate the light. Zuko would always bring some tea and she had to admit to herself, it was some good tea. It was only then that her arms were unbound; she genuinely had no intention to use her bending.
When Mai visited, she usually came with Ty Lee who did most of the talking. But one day, staring at the walls with a blank mind suddenly became something that she could no longer do. Mai and Ty Lee had come to visit her with some news. Mai was pregnant and Ty Lee had become engaged to her boyfriend, whom she had met while working with the Kyoshi warriors. Azula looked down, avoiding meeting their gaze, but that was normal.
As soon as they left, Azula's heart dropped a million miles. She knew that Mai and Zuko had gotten married and that Ty Lee had a boyfriend. Hearing about her brother's marriage and Ty Lee's love interests, made her think that she should reconsider her own evil ways. She made peace with it and decided not to be the person she was, a power obsessed princess.
She was content with the fact that Zuko and Mai were married; they were her brother and friend after all. She was also content that Ty Lee, a girl who would always jump from one boy to another, finally found the one person she loved. Sure, she was annoyed at first but learned to wave it away. But this, this was a ton of bricks onto her head, crumbling down her body. Perhaps she hadn't gotten over her anger and it was only just hidden inside. Azula was going to be an aunt and her other best friend was getting married.
The princess threw her head back and made a noise for the first time in five years. A blood curdling scream came from a writhing Azula on the floor. She would never marry, have children or even have the simple pleasure of just going out on a walk. A very startled group of nurses ran to her room and had to strap her onto the bed. A nurse had to prepare a syringe with a sedative and inject it into her. The other shoe had dropped.
