I exist without fear,
Because when I feared, you were there.
I have broken my mind, my body, and my spirit.
You were there to mend the hurt.
When I laughed, when I smiled,
You were there to laugh and smile too.
If I deny you,
You were there and ready to accept me.
When I returned in disgrace,
You were there with open arms.
While I cried out,
You were there to dry my tears.
Anger I have seen. You watched it with me.
Sadness I have held. You wished to bear it for me.
Happiness I remember. You are bringing it back to me.
Shame I have born. You never wanted it for me.
Fear I conquered. You helped me face it.
Pain I have endured. You cut it in half for me.
You tasted my rage. You felt my tears.
You heard my laughter. You saw my embarrassment.
You smelled my fright. You felt my wound.
All this you saw, tasted, smelled, heard, and felt and more
Because, my lord, Jesus,
YOU WERE THERE.
