This story takes place in Deathly Hallows when Ginny, Neville and Luna are leading Dumbledore's Army.
Have I ever mentioned how much I utterly despise disclaimers? I have? Well, damn.
I've been beaten down, I've been kicked around,
but she takes it all for me.
And I lost my faith, in my darkest days,
but she makes me want to believe.
She is Love; Parachute.
Staring up at the starry night sky, Ginny can't help but wonder if everything she's done was worth all the pain. She reaches up a hand and brushes the fresh bruise on her cheek, blinking back the tears even if no one is there to see them. She hasn't cried, she won't cry because that is what they want.
They want to see her break.
It's so easy to act tough and fearless when she's with the DA. She can pretend that the scars don't hurt, that the curses she's put through aren't enough to make her scream. She's adopted a habit of sticking to her friends because being stuck alone with only her thoughts is terrifying.
It's slowly driving her mad.
But Ginny has Luna. Luna is what keeps her sane, what keeps her fighting.
Luna is what keeps Ginny alive.
She's brave, braver than any Gryffindor that she's ever known. She's fiercely loyal and intelligent and everything that Ginny could ever need in such a terrible time. She's her Luna.
Turning her head to the side, Ginny meets Luna's soulful silver eyes. She's smiling likes she can read Ginny's mind and part of her thinks that maybe she can.
Ginny traces the bruise on Luna's cheek that contrasts so beautifully against her porcelain skin.
Luna's smile widens, "We match."
And it probably shouldn't be so funny, but it is. They can't stop laughing, grinning up at the dark night sky.
Ginny's smile is gone quicker then it came. She realizes that laughing is so rare to her that it almost hurts to do so and it only makes her want to laugh more. She wants to go back to the days when everything was a joke and no one cared enough to be serious.
But those days are gone, so far gone that they seem more like a dream than a memory.
Luna rests her head on Ginny's lap, savoring the feeling of Ginny's fingertips running through her hair.
Ginny finds two particularly bright stars in the sky.
They're the Ginny and Luna stars, shining bright in the bleakness of the night.
"Do you see those two stars, Luna? They're us. Ginny and Luna."
Luna's lips twitch into a frown, "We're so small..."
"That's all we are. Little specks in the grand scheme of life."
"But when all of us little specks join together, we making something so much bigger."
Ginny stares down at Luna, remembering once again why she loves her so much. Because she gives her hope in the worst of times, she gives her a reason to keep going.
Because they're all part of something bigger. Something life-changing.
