(A/N: For those of you who were reading my last story, I apologize for the sudden cancel. I didn't know how to continue the story with Lyra and Rohnan and not alter the original story arc too much. I had different ideas on how to tell their story and I felt a reboot was necessary. Let me know in your reviews which version of their story you liked the most: this reboot or the original Knight of Pandora arc. I hope you like it. Enjoy.)
Pride and Glory
CHAPTER ONE: PROPHECY
The universe is all. In the universe, there many galaxies, each consisting of different worlds. Each world possessing its own champions. Of all the races in the universe, none are mightier than the warrior race, the Saiyans. Their power and lack of mercy had no equal.
Their thirst for battle ignited a civil war that destroyed their home world, forcing them to conquer another and claim it for their own. Their reputation was noticed by a tyrant who asked for their skills in exchange for glory. This opportunity intrigued their king and they leaped at the opportunity. Little did the Saiyans know that their pride and glory would become tainted.
The throne room was crowded and filled with loud and heated debates. King Vegeta sat silently on his throne, shaking with anger, his eyes scowling at the King's Elite. Beside him was his son, Prince Vegeta.
"We must strike!"
"No! He'll kill us all!"
King Vegeta slammed his fist down in fury. "ENOUGH!"
The throne room immediately became silent and the King's Elite all looked at their king who suddenly stood from his throne. "This bickering is pointless! We are Saiyan! We have no equal!"
Some nodded in agreement with renewed hope and boldness, but others remained silent and cowardly.
"United, we are unbreakable! Alone, we are still invincible!"
More cheered, empowered by their king's powerful words. His speech gave them all hope and ignited their spirits with courage.
"Frieza's day will come. His days are numbered. Now, leave," King Vegeta finished and the crowd exited the throne room, leaving the king, prince, and royal guards alone.
King Vegeta noticed this and ordered one of the nearby guards, "Bring her to me!"
Prince Vegeta gritted his teeth upon hearing his father's order. What?! That old hag?!
His father noticed, yet ignored his behavior.
The guard did as ordered and left the throne room.
"You disapprove, my son?" King Vegeta asked, his eyes still on the throne room's entrance.
"She's just an old hag spouting nonsense!"
King Vegeta picked up a book, "Such ignorant words. This book contains every prophecy she has ever told since captured by your grandfather. Each and every one has been fulfilled."
"That old hag has bewitched you father," the Prince retorted, "having you believe in her tricks of fate and having you forget that we Saiyans are the masters of our own fate."
The king and prince, father and son, scowled at each other for a minute before King Vegeta ordered, "Leave me. I will hear no more of this."
Prince Vegeta scoffed before leaving the throne room.
King Vegeta looked down at the book as his son's words echoed in his mind. She's just an old hag spouting nonsense! That old hag has bewitched you father… having you believe in her tricks of fate and having you forget that we Saiyans are the masters of our own fate.
The guard finally got up the tall stairway of the tower, where the elder was imprisoned. He stood at the door, studying the elder's room. It was simple. A bed. A desk where she can write and eat. A single candle to provide little light and warmth in her cold, dark cell.
The guard's attention shifted to the other side of the cell when he began hearing a voice. An anxious figure sat in the dark, fidgeting with her writing hand and reciting something in her native language.
"Athena," the guard called and the figure stopped instantly, turning her head to the entrance.
Her writing hand started shaking again as she stood up with her staff and slowly made her way to the door. Her face was twisted with anxiety as if her mind was being pulled countless different ways.
"The king requests your presence," the guard said and an excited smile came across her face.
"I-I haven't been forgotten?" she asked.
"The king never forgets, Athena. Come," the guard replied and opened her cell.
Athena watched the door open before looking back up at the guard. The guard smiled, "Let's not keep the king waiting."
Athena smiled again and quickly walked to the stairway, followed by the guard. As they made their way down the stairway, the guard couldn't help but stare at her writing hand still moving as if it were still writing. We need to hurry.
The king looked up as the throne room's massive door opened and the guard entered with the elder. He stood when they came a halt and studied the elder's condition. He reached down for the book and tossed it down at the elder's feet.
Athena lunged for it and quickly opened it, nearly ripping the pages as she frantically turned to a blank page and with her finger wrote prophecy after prophecy. The guards and King Vegeta watched her write with urgency like her life depended on it. Finally she ceased writing and got her knees, breathing out with relief.
Athena finally looked King Vegeta in the eye. "Don't take my book away, ever again!"
King Vegeta smiled, "As you wish." He slowly began making his way down the steps to them.
"Prophecies are not meant to be horded. They are meant to be freed. If I horded them any longer, I would have perished a horrible death as warned by the Divine Crystal of Prophecy," Athena continued.
"I see," King Vegeta replied.
"The Divine Crystal of Prophecy was passed down to me from my ancestors. Our bloodline was chosen since the beginning. However, the crystal was stolen from me long ago by pirates. Although apart from the crystal, I still received visions, but they would be clouded and I wouldn't be able to understand them without the crystal's incite," Athena finished.
"Then it's a good thing," King Vegeta replied before summoning a servant, who carried a small box to them.
Athena's eyes widened with unbelief as the King held up the crystal. "How?"
"My father and I looked for it for years. My father had given up hope that we would ever track down the thieves. A new lead led us to the pirates and destroyed their planet after retrieving it," the King explained.
Athena reached out and the crystal returned to her hand, desperate to return to her. An energy flooded into her body and within seconds, her youth was restored.
Some guards gasped with shock as the seer stood before King Vegeta. Once a frail old elder, now a beautiful young woman. Even King Vegeta was surprised so she explained, "When the crystal is passed on after the seer's death, a child is born. That child inherits the crystal when he or she comes of age. The crystal makes them ageless. Should the crystal be taken from the seer, the seer would begin to age like normal. If the crystal returns, it restores what time took away."
"So you're immortal?" the guard who escorted her asked.
"Ageless," Athena corrected, "A seer can still die by natural means."
"Enough," King Vegeta commanded, "You're here for one thing only, woman!"
"And what's that?" Athena laughed.
King Vegeta remained silent before replying, "My Elite grow restless. Frieza mocks us and insults us. My Saiyans demand war and the spilling of blood- Frieza's blood. Will we have victory?"
Athena picked up her book and handed it to him. "All prophecies are given by the crystal. I myself can't see the future, nor can I ask the crystal to show me something I want to see. You'll have to read the ones I did write and see. I pray that the crystal gives you what you are asking."
Her words angered King Vegeta and commanded, "Get her out of my sight!"
The guard began escorting her back to her cell and King Vegeta looked down at the book in his hand when they disappeared from sight. He returned to his throne and breathed angrily. All prophecies are given by the crystal. I myself can't see the future, nor can I ask the crystal to show me something I want to see. You'll have to read the ones I did write and see. I pray that the crystal gives you what you are asking.
His breathing relaxed as he looked down at the book in his right hand. Hesitantly, he opened the book, fearful the book contained nothing of the coming battle. He read each prophecy.
Ten golden champions stand in the world between worlds. Ascend, champions of the Seventh and defend her. By mercy or greed, you're fate will be decided. "Hmph! What is this nonsense?" King Vegeta thought out loud and kept reading until one prophecy seized his attention.
Who is mighty and worthy to slay the Ice Demon? Behold, the son of Vegeta has risen! Out of the Pit of mortals he has climbed. On his head, the son of Vegeta wears three crowns. One of gold. One of godly sapphire. One that is white like snow. Rejoice, the Ice Demon is embraced by the second death.
King Vegeta's eyes were wide. His breath leaving his lungs and his heart skipping beats. Sweat rolled down his brow. One of the guards noticed and spoke, "Your Majesty? Are you okay?"
"I'm fine," King Vegeta replied and ordered, "Summon my son and the King's Elite!"
Athena entered her cell and the guard returned to his position. When she was alone, the crystal shined brightly, but something was different this time. The crystal was glowing purple and she could feel the life being sucked out of her as a new prophecy came to her.
She fell to her knees, grasping her heart, as her eyes shined the same light, making her brain feel like it was being ripped in half. Woe, people of Vegeta! Wail and despair! Unto you is born a destroyer. On his head, he wears a crown of death. In his hands are chaos and destruction. Death follows him like a loving brother yet fails to embrace him. The sons of Vegeta lay at his feet beside shattered crowns of gold and sapphire.
The light disappeared and the pain disappeared. She didn't feel the life being drained from her anymore. She looked at her hair, which had turned white and her skin turned old. "What's…happening to me?!"
The crystal shined in a pattern that only she could understand. Slowly her eyes widened. "I…I see. My time…is drawing near."
