"Ace, I don't know what you're talking about! I never said that! TO ANYONE. Let alone her." Jack yelled, trying to control his anger.
"Do not call me Ace at a time like this. Jack, why did you do it? Just answer me that. WHY? I thought we had something. I really did." Katherine said sadly, looking at the floor.
"Katherine. Of course we have something. Why do you think I'd be tryin' so hard if we didn't?" Jack mumbled, shoving his hands in his pockets.
"Don't think I haven't heard what they say about you, Jack. All anyone has been telling me is to stay far away from you; that you're a two-timing jerk who can't stay with one girl for more than a week. I've ignored it, because I really felt like we had SOME kind of spark. I guess I should've listened." Katherine started to walk away.
Just as her foot hit the doorframe, she felt a hand on her shoulder.
"Ace, please." Jack pleaded. Katherine turned around.
"Jack, why should I believe you?" Katherine said, locking her eyes to Jack's. She took a step closer to him, but nothing more. Just that one step. That one step was all it took for Jack to feel okay. That one step was all it took for Katherine herself to realize that she really did want to try with Jack. She really did.
"You should believe me because I'm telling the truth. Ace, I'm falling for you. I'm falling hard. And believe me. I would not screw this up for anything. I promise." Jack said quietly, taking a few steps to close the cold distance between him and Katherine.
Katherine slowly raised her hand to his cheek.
"Do you promise?" Katherine whispered, bringing her face close to his.
"I promise." Jack mumbled, placing an airy kiss on her lips.
